pharmachologic effect
This dermatoprotective drug is characterized by anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal effects.
The antibacterial activity of the main component is directed to gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria: Streptococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus spp.
In addition, zinc pyrithione is able to lower the intracellular ATP level, leading to depolarization of cell membranes, death of fungi and bacteria.
The antifungal effect is pronounced against Pityrosporum orbiculare and Pityrosporum ovale, which cause inflammation and excessive flaking in dandruff, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis and other skin conditions.
