Pharmacological action
Xymelin is a vasoconstrictor drug for topical use in ENT practice, alpha-adrenergic agonist. Causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx.
Facilitates nasal breathing in rhinitis.
In therapeutic doses, does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause hyperemia. The action occurs in a few minutes and lasts for 10-12 hours.
Indications
acute respiratory infections with rhinitis (runny nose) symptoms
acute allergic rhinitis
hay fever
sinusitis
eustachitis
otitis media (to reduce nasal mucosa swelling in patients with nasopharyngeal procedures).
Contraindications
arterial hypertension
tachycardia
severe atherosclerosis
glaucoma
atrophic rhinitis
thyrotoxicosis
surgical intervention in children
Caution: the drug should be used for diabetes mellitus, functional class III-IV tension angina, prostatic hyperplasia.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and during lactation, the drug should be used only after a careful assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for the mother and the fetus, it is not allowed to exceed the recommended doses.
Special instructions
Do not use for a long time, such as in chronic rhinitis.

Dosage and administration of
Xymelin is administered intranasally, for adults and children over 10 years old - 1 dose of spray. Xymelin is used no more than 7 days.
Side effects
Local reactions: with frequent and / or prolonged use - irritation and / or dryness of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion rarely - swelling of the nasal mucosa.
Systemic reactions: rarely - palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia, visual impairment with prolonged use at high doses - depression.
Drug Interactions
Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
Overdose
Symptoms: increased side effects.
Treatment: carrying out symptomatic therapy.
