Pharmacological action
Xylen - vasoconstrictor for topical use in ENT practice.
Stimulates alpha adrenergic receptors, causes vasoconstriction, reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa and secretions, restores patency of the nasal passages, and facilitates nasal breathing.
Indications
Acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, hay fever, otitis media (to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa), preparing the patient for diagnostic procedures in the nasal passages.
Contraindications
Angle-closure glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, hyperthyroidism, surgical interventions on the meninges (history), hypersensitivity to xylometazoline.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and lactation, it should be used only after a careful assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for the mother and the fetus, it is not allowed to exceed the recommended doses.
Composition
1 ml drops contain:
Active ingredient:
xylometazoline hydrochloride - 0.001 g
Excipients:
benzalkonium chloride (in terms of anhydrous),
disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium hydrogen phosphate ,
sodium chloride,
purified water.
Dosing and Administration
Adults and children over 6 years of age are given 1-2 drops of 0.1% xylometazoline solution in each nasal passage 2-3 times a day.
For infants and children up to 6 years of age, use a 0.05% solution of 1-2 drops in each nasal passage 1-2 times a day.
Do not use the drug more than 3 times a day and no more than 3-5 days. Do not use the drug without a break for more than 3-5 days.
Side effects
With frequent and / or prolonged use: irritation of the mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, dry nasal mucosa, hypersecretion.
Rarely: swelling of the nasal mucosa (more often with prolonged use), palpitations, heart rhythm disturbances, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, sleep disturbances, and visual impairment.
With prolonged use in high doses: depressed.
Drug Interaction
Incompatible with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
Overdose
Symptoms: increased side effects.
Treatment: symptomatic under the supervision of a physician.
Storage conditions
In a dry, dark place.
