Pharmacological action
Mydocalm - central muscle relaxant.
Reduces pathologically increased muscle tone, muscle stiffness, improves voluntary active movements.
The mechanism of action is associated with a regulatory effect on the caudal part of the reticular formation, suppression of pathologically increased spinal reflex activity, and effects on peripheral nerve endings.
Indications
organic and degenerative neurological diseases, accompanied by increased tone of striated muscles (damage to the pyramidal tract, multiple sclerosis, myelopathy, encephalomyelitis, the effects of stroke, muscle contracture, muscle stiffness, spinal automatism)
muscle hypertonicity
muscle cramps
cerebral palsy (Little's disease)
encephalopathy, accompanied by muscular dystonia (including in childhood).
Contraindications
psychosis
epilepsy
Parkinson's disease
hypersensitivity to the drug Midokalm.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Use during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, and during lactation (breastfeeding) is possible in cases where the expected benefits of therapy for the mother outweigh the potential risk to the fetus or infant.
Composition
1 tablet contains
tolperisone hydrochloride 50 mg,
excipients:
lactose,
citric acid monohydrate,
silicon colloid anhydrous,
stearcrystalcrld ,
dye (E129 or E172).
Dosage and administration
Inside, after meals, without chewing, with a little water.
Adults and children from 14 years of age - usually starting with 50 mg 2-3 times a day, gradually increasing the dose to 150 mg 2-3 times a day.
For children from 3 to 6 years of age - Midokalm is prescribed orally in a daily dose of 5 mg / kg 7-14 years - 2-4 mg / kg (in 3 divided doses throughout the day).
Side effects
muscle weakness,
headache,
arterial hypotension,
nausea,
vomiting,
abdominal discomfort.
Side effects usually go away with a reduced dose.
In rare cases, allergic reactions (skin itching, erythema, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, bronchospasm) are encountered.
No drug interaction
There are no drug interaction data limiting the use of Midocalm.
Although tolperisone has an effect on the CNS, it does not cause sedation and can therefore be used in combination with sedatives, hypnotics and ethanol-containing drugs.
Does not change the effect of ethanol on the CNS.
Overdose
There is insufficient data on the overdose of the drug Midocalm.
