pharmachologic effect
Non-selective beta-blocker. When applied topically in ophthalmology, it reduces both normal and increased intraocular pressure by reducing the formation of intraocular fluid and improving its outflow, does not affect accommodation and pupil size.
It has antianginal, hypotensive and antiarrhythmic effects, which are manifested with systemic use. Reduces the automatism of the sinus node, reduces heart rate, slows down AV conduction, reduces contractility and myocardial oxygen demand.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, it quickly penetrates the cornea, in a small amount enters the systemic circulation due to absorption through the vessels of the conjunctiva, the mucous membranes of the nose and lacrimal tract.
Side effect
From the side of the organ of vision: when applied topically, irritation and hyperemia of the conjunctiva, skin of the eyelids, burning and itching in the eyes, lacrimation, photophobia, edema of the corneal epithelium, punctate superficial keratopathy, corneal hypesthesia, diplopia, ptosis, dry eyes are possible. During fistulizing antiglaucoma operations, retinal detachment may develop in the postoperative period.

In ophthalmology, it is used for a long time, therefore, during the treatment period, an examination of the cornea should be carried out at least once every 6 months, the function of lacrimation and the state of the visual fields should be monitored.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and use mechanisms
During the period of treatment, one should refrain from engaging in potentially hazardous activities that require increased attention, rapid psychomotor reactions.
When used in ophthalmology immediately after instillation, it is possible to reduce visual acuity and slow down psychomotor reactions, therefore, you should refrain from engaging in potentially hazardous activities that require increased attention for 30 minutes.
