For the treatment of other forms of amebiasis: adults and children over 12 years old - 0.5 g orally, in the morning and in the evening for 5-10 days. Single doses for children: at the age of 7-12 years - 0.375 g; 1-6 years old - 0.25 g; up to 1 year - 0.125 g; frequency of appointment - 2 times a day (morning and evening); the duration of treatment is 5-10 days.

With giardiasis: adults and children weighing over 35 kg inside, 1.5 g 1 time per day; children weighing up to 35 kg - 40 mg / kg / day. The duration of treatment is 1-2 days.

Prevention of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria, 0.5-1 g before surgery, after surgery - 0.5 g 2 times a day for 3-5 days.

pharmachologic effect

Antiprotozoal agent derived from 5-nitroimidazole. It is believed that the mechanism of action is associated with a violation of the structure of the DNA of sensitive microorganisms. It is active against Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica, as well as against some anaerobic bacteria (including Bacteroides spp., Clostridium spp., Fusobacterium and anaerobic cocci). T1 / 2 of ornidazole is higher than that of metronidazole.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is high. The time to reach Cmax is 1-2 hours. Plasma protein binding is 15% or more. Penetrates the BBB. T1 / 2 - about 13 hours. It is excreted in the form of metabolites by the kidneys (60-70%) and with feces (20-25%), unchanged - about 5%.

Side effect

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy, during lactation. During pregnancy, use is possible only for absolute indications if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

Does not inhibit alcohol dehydrogenase, therefore it is not incompatible with alcohol.

Drug interactions
