The substances contained in the SuperOptics preparation are intended mainly to protect against damage to the macula, retina and lens. The macula is the central and most sensitive part of the retina. Visual acuity depends on the normal functioning of the macular retina. Factors that adversely affect the functioning of the macula include: age, tobacco smoking, long-term exposure to intense light (ultraviolet radiation) on the eye, and a deficiency of so-called antioxidants.
The adverse effects of the above environmental factors are mainly associated with the formation of free radicals. Free radicals are also produced in the body through many metabolic processes. Free radicals are atoms, molecules or ions that exhibit high chemical activity in relation to the constituents of cell membranes (they are destroyed by oxidation). An excess of free radicals contributes to the occurrence of such ophthalmic pathologies as macular degeneration and cataracts. When free radicals damage the macular retina, deterioration, and often complete loss of central vision, deterioration of color perception, difficulty in reading, and in exceptional cases, even blindness, can occur. Free radical damage to the lens of the eye can lead to the development of cataracts.
In addition to protecting the eyes from the adverse effects of environmental factors, the substances contained in the preparation relieve the symptoms of eye fatigue caused by prolonged visual concentration, increase visual acuity and improve vision adaptation in the dark. Carotenoids: Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in the macula of the retina. The intake of these substances leads to an increase in the optical density of the macula, which contributes to the normal functioning of the retina, and therefore vision. In addition, these substances protect the eyes from sunlight and harmful ultraviolet radiation, acting like a light filter, and prevent the effects of free radicals, which are harmful to the retina, especially the macula (antioxidant effect).
Vitamins C and E, omega-3 fatty acids and zinc, selenium, manganese and copper, which are part of antioxidant enzymes, also have a strong antioxidant effect. In addition, Vitamin E supports the normal functioning of blood vessels in the retina, and one of the omega-3 fatty acids, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), increases receptor sensitivity.
Vitamin A in the retina is converted to rhodopsin, a visual pigment essential for vision at dusk and in low light. Vitamin A also takes part in the process of protecting the conjunctiva of the eye from drying out.
B vitamins play an important role in maintaining the physiological functions of the visual apparatus, improving vision by increasing the sensitivity of the retina and taking part in the functioning of the nervous system that innervates the organ of vision.
