DESCRIPTION

Stomorzhil is a drug for the treatment of bacterial infections in dogs and cats. In appearance it is a yellow pill.

COMPOSITION

The drug in one tablet contains: spiromycin - 150000 IU and metronidazole - 25 mg, as well as auxiliary components: aluminum hydroxide, sorbitol, white dextrin and magnesium stearate.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

The active components of the drug - metronidazole and spiromecin exhibit synergistic action against a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms, including protozoa.

Spiromycin, as a natural antibiotic from the macrolide group, is capable of reversibly binding to ribosomes and suppressing protein synthesis in a microbial cell. Active against Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae), Staphylococcus aureus, Meningococcus spp., Bordetella spp., Corynebacterium spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium spp., Mycoplasma mycoides, Chlamydia spp., Leptospira spp. Bacteroides nodosus, Fusobacterium spp. and the simplest: Toxoplasma gondii. Metronidazole disrupts the respiratory processes in the cell, which causes the death of pathogenic protozoa. In addition, in some species of anaerobes, it has the ability to suppress DNA synthesis and cause its destruction. Active against gram-positive anaerobes: Clostridium spp., Eubacterium spp.,

When administered orally, the drug is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (bioavailability is about 100%) and the maximum concentration of its components in the blood is observed after 1.5–3 hours.

According to the degree of effect on the body of warm-blooded animals, the drug belongs to low-hazard substances and in recommended doses does not have a resorptive-toxic, mutagenic and sensitizing effect.

INDICATIONS

Prescribed to dogs and cats for the treatment of infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to spiramycin and metronidazole, especially in the acute and subacute period of the disease. In the complex therapy of inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, including stomatitis, gingivitis, pyorrhea and periodontitis.

APPLICATION

The drug Stomorzhil 2 is administered to the animal once a day at the rate of one tablet per 2 kg of body weight. The duration of the course of treatment is 5? 10 days, depending on the individual characteristics of the organism and the nature of the course of the disease.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Increased individual sensitivity to drug components. It is not recommended to use tablets in crushed form, as well as to prescribe with other antibiotics from the macrolide group.

SIDE EFFECTS

In very rare cases, with increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug, an animal may experience allergic reactions and vomiting. If these signs appear, the drug should be discontinued.
