Pharmacodynamics
Espumisan® baby reduces the amount of gas in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). The active substance - simethicone has surface-active properties and the ability to reduce surface tension at the liquid / gas interface, which contributes to the fusion of gas bubbles and the destruction of foam in the intestine, as a result of which the released gas is absorbed or removed naturally under the influence of intestinal motility.
The use of simethicone in preparation for diagnostic tests of the abdominal organs prevents the occurrence of image defects caused by gas bubbles.
Pharmacokinetics
Simethicone is chemically inert, after oral administration it is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and acts only in its lumen. It does not interact with microorganisms and enzymes and does not affect digestion processes. It is excreted by the intestine unchanged.
Indications
- symptoms of intestinal colic in infants
- symptoms of excessive formation and accumulation of gases in the gastrointestinal tract (including flatulence, increased gas formation in the postoperative period)
- symptoms of excessive gas formation caused by functional dyspepsia
diagnostic study abdominal cavity and pelvis (ultrasound, radiography, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, etc.), including, as an additive to suspensions of contrast agents for obtaining an image by the double contrast method
, acute poisoning with detergents containing foaming agents (tensides) as an antifoam agent.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug,
- intestinal obstruction,
- hereditary fructose intolerance.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
The preparation EspumisanВ® baby can be used during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
Special instructions
If symptoms of infant colic and / or excessive gas formation persist for a long time, consult a doctor for a medical examination.
Espumisan® baby contains sorbitol (sorbitol), therefore its use in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance is contraindicated.
Information for patients with diabetes: 1 ml of emulsion (25 drops) contains 199, 00 mg of sorbitol, which corresponds to 0.017 bread unit (XE).

sorbitol liquid (non-crystallizing) - 199.17 mg,
sodium chloride - 0.67 mg,
sodium citrate - 4.19 mg,
sodium hydroxide - 0.67 mg,
sorbic acid - 1.06 mg,
purified water - 732.25 mg.
Dosage and Administration
Inside. Before use, the emulsion vial must be shaken. You can dose the drug in drops, holding the bottle vertically with the hole down. For convenience, you can also dose in milliliters using the measuring cap.
The drug is taken before / during or after each meal and, if necessary, before bedtime.
The frequency of administration and the duration of use depend on the severity of the symptoms. If necessary, the preparation EspumisanΠbaby can be taken for a long time.
For complaints of infantile colic and excessive gas formation:
Children under 1 year of age: 5-10 drops of EspumisanΠbaby (add to a baby bottle or give with a small spoon before / during or after feeding).
Children from 1 year to 6 years: 10 drops of EspumisanΠbaby 3-5 times a day.
Children from 6 to 14 years old: 10 to 20 drops of the drug EspumisanΠbaby 3-5 times a day.
Children from 14 and 18 years of age: 20 drops of EspumisanΠbaby 3-5 times a day.
In preparation for diagnostic tests (radiography, ultrasound, etc.):
Use 1 ml of the preparation EspumisanΠbaby 3 times a day after meals the day before the study and 1 ml of the preparation EspumisanΠbaby in the morning on the day of the study.
To obtain a double contrast image:
Add 2-4 ml of EspumisanΠbaby per 1 liter of contrasting suspension.
In preparation for esophagogastroduodenoscopy:
Inside, 2-3 ml of the preparation EspumisanΠbaby before the study. During endoscopy, if necessary, you can enter several milliliters of emulsion through the channel of the endoscope to eliminate gas bubbles, interfering with the study.
In acute poisoning with detergents containing detergents:
1-4 ml of the preparation EspumisanΠbaby, depending on the severity of the poisoning.
Side effects
Side effects have not been observed with the use of the drug Espumisan baby.
