Beautiful catalpa, northern catalpa or pasta tree is a tree with a dense wide-pyramidal crown, up to 35 m high. The natural habitat of these beautiful trees is North America, China, Japan, West Indies. The Maya Indians have catalpa - the tree of happiness!
The bark of the catalpa is gray and thin-lamellar. The large leaves are heart-shaped, up to 40 cm long and up to 20 cm wide. The flowers are rather large, fragrant, they are painted in white-cream color, inside which there are two yellow stripes and purple-brown dots, the petals are wavy at the edges. Blooms for about a month from mid-June. The fruit is a box, inside of which the seeds, in appearance, resembles a pod or pasta. When choosing a landing site, make sure that it is well lit and protected from the wind. Young trees grow quickly. The tree is frost-resistant, drought-resistant, but still, in prolonged drought, abundant and frequent watering is necessary.
Catalpa has been used in folk medicine for a long time. For example, the Indians use the roots and bark of catalpa to treat malaria and whooping cough. Catalpa wood, known as the Antillean oak, is prized in the construction and furniture industries. Also, catalpa is a wonderful honey plant.
MODE OF APPLICATION
Place the seeds on a tray lid and soak them in room temperature water for 3 days, remembering to change the water once a day. After soaking, transfer the seeds to a clean surface and drain the water by releasing the pan cover.
Pour expanded clay on the bottom of the plastic pot, and on top pour fertile soil, leaving a small amount of earth in the bag.
Place the pot on a tray lid. Excess water when watering through the drainage holes in the pot will accumulate on the lid.
Sprinkle generously with room temperature water.
Spread the seeds evenly over the soil surface.
Sprinkle the seeds with a layer of the remaining fertile soil (3-5 mm) and compact it slightly.
Pour water at room temperature again and cover with transparent plastic, airing once a day.
Keep fertile soil moist at all times (watering 2-4 times a week). It is better to use a spray bottle during seed germination.
Choose a place well lit by the sun for your pet. A window sill is ideal not on the south side to exclude prolonged direct exposure to sunlight. The optimum temperature regime is 18-25 В° C.
Be patient, seedlings will appear within 10-40 days. Remove the plastic after emergence.
