Zinc ions are a cofactor of the superoxide dismutase enzyme system, which catalyzes the disproportionation reaction of free radicals.

In addition, zinc ions are necessary for the manifestation of the activity of hydrolases (phosphatase, peptidase, kinase), which are involved, in particular, in the transfer of phosphate, play an important role in the metabolism of nucleic acids, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, fatty acids, hormones (including . genital).

Selenium ions are a cofactor of the glutathione peroxidase enzyme system, which decomposes hydrogen peroxide through the simultaneous oxidation of reduced glutathione.

Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) has a high antiradical activity, protecting unsaturated fatty acids in membranes from lipid peroxidation and participating in the formation of intercellular substance, collagen and elastic fibers of connective tissue, vascular smooth muscles, and the digestive tract.

Vitamins with antioxidant properties also include vitamin C (ascorbic acid), which, in addition, provides collagen synthesis, participates in the metabolism of folic acid and iron (see iron salt), plays an important role in the synthesis of steroid hormones and catecholamines, beta carotene - a fat-soluble plant pigment from the group of carotenoids, entering the body, accumulates in it and turns into retinol (vitamin A), which, interacting with various opsins, participates in the formation of visual pigments necessary for normal twilight and color vision, ensures the integrity of epithelial tissues, regulates bone growth.
