Intranasally (in each nasal passage), adults are prescribed 1-3 injections 3-4 times a day. It is recommended to inhale slightly through the nose immediately after injection.

For diagnostic purposes - after cleaning the nose, inject once or insert a tampon soaked in the drug solution into each nasal passage and leave for 1-2 minutes.

Apply for a short time, but not more than 1 week. If nasal breathing is easier, then the drug can be stopped earlier. Re-use of the drug is possible after a few days.

Pharmacodynamics

Naphazoline is an alpha-adrenostimulating agent that has a quick, pronounced and prolonged vasoconstrictor effect on the vessels of the mucous membranes of the nasal cavity, nasopharynx and paranasal sinuses - reduces swelling, hyperemia, exudation, thereby improving the patency of the nasal passages, facilitating nasal breathing. Along with this, the patency of the Eustachian tubes is restored. The therapeutic effect occurs, as a rule, within 5 minutes after the administration of the drug and lasts for 4-6 hours. After 5-7 days, tolerance develops.

The menthol and eucalyptol contained in the preparation have a cooling effect on the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, giving a feeling of freshness.

Pharmokinetics

When applied topically, systemic absorption is low. The vasoconstrictor effect occurs after a few minutes and lasts for several hours.

Overdose

Symptoms: decrease in body temperature, bradycardia, increased blood pressure.

Treatment: symptomatic.

Side effects

Nausea, tachycardia, headache, increased blood pressure, reactive hyperemia, swelling of the nasal mucosa, irritation, if used for more than 1 week - swelling of the nasal mucosa, atrophic rhinitis.

Special conditions

May have a resorptive effect.

With prolonged use, the severity of the vasoconstrictor action gradually decreases (the phenomenon of tachyphylaxis), and therefore it is recommended to take a break for several days after 5-7 days of use.

In view of the possible development of side effects from the cardiovascular and nervous systems, the recommended dose of the drug should not be exceeded.

Avoid getting the drug in the eyes.

In order to avoid the spread of infection, it is necessary to use the drug individually.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms

After prolonged use or taking remedies for the common cold, containing naphazoline, in dosages exceeding the recommended ones, a general effect on the cardiovascular system cannot be ruled out. In these cases, the ability to drive vehicles and moving machinery may be reduced.

Drug interactions

Do not use concomitantly with monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 14 days after the end of their use.

Slows down the absorption of local anesthetic drugs (lengthens their effect when conducting surface anesthesia).
