Pharmacological action
Salicylic ointment has a keratolytic, antiseptic, locally irritating, anti-inflammatory effect.
Indications
Used in adults as a topical treatment for burns and wounds.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to salicylic acid, children.
Special instructions
Do not apply the drug on birthmarks, warts including in the genital area or face.
When treating children, it is necessary to avoid treating several skin areas at once.
During pregnancy, the use of the drug for the treatment of corns and calluses is permissible only on a limited surface (not more than 5 ml).
If it comes into contact with mucous membranes, rinse the area with plenty of water.
It must be borne in mind that with skin diseases occurring with hyperemia and inflammation (including psoriatic erythroderma) or with superficial wetting lesions, increased absorption of salicylic acid is possible.
Composition 100 g of ointment for external application comprising:
active substances: salicylic acid - 2 g,
excipients: petrolatum up to 100 g.
Dosage and administration
Salicylic ointment is applied topically, in the form of applications, applied in a thin layer on the surface of the wound and covered with a sterile cloth or a sterile dressing soaked in ointment is applied to the wound. Before applying the dressing, the wound is cleaned of necrotic tissue, the bubbles are opened, washed with an antiseptic solution. Dressing change is carried out 1 time in 2-3 days until complete purification from purulent-necrotic masses. The consumption of salicylic ointment per dressing depends on the size of the wound and averages 0.2 g per 1 cm2 of the wound surface. The duration of treatment is 6-20 days.
Side effects
Rarely, local, allergic reactions in the form of itching, burning, skin rash.
Storage conditions
The drug should be stored out of the reach of children, at a temperature not exceeding 20 РC.
