pharmachologic effect
Pharmacodynamics
With topical application of minoxidil, its stimulating effect on hair growth in persons with androgenetic alopecia (thinning hair, baldness) was noted.
The appearance of signs of hair growth is noted after 4 or more months of using the drug 2 times a day.
The onset and severity of the effect may vary from patient to patient.
After stopping the use of REGINE, the growth of new hair stops, and within 3-4 months it is possible to restore the original appearance.
The exact mechanism of action of REGINE in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia is unknown.
In controlled clinical trials, after topical application of REGINE, both in patients with normal and in patients with high blood pressure, no systemic side effects associated with the absorption of minoxidil were observed.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied externally, minoxidil is poorly absorbed through normal, intact skin: on average, 1.4% (0.3 - 4.5%) of the total applied dose enters the systemic circulation.
When 1 ml of REGAIN is applied to the skin, 5% solution for external use, which corresponds to 50 mg of minoxidil, 0.70 mg of minoxidil is absorbed.
When applied externally, the serum level of minoxidil is determined by the rate of its absorption through the skin.
After discontinuation of the drug, approximately 95% of minoxidil that has entered the systemic circulation is excreted within 4 days.
Indications
Androgenetic alopecia in men and women (in order to restore the hairline or stabilize the hair loss process).
Contraindications
- children and adolescents up to 18 years old
- hypersensitivity to minoxidil and other components of the drug.
The drug should not be applied in case of redness, inflammation, infection, soreness of the scalp (including sunburn).
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Regaine should not be used during pregnancy and lactation.
special instructions
In addition to hereditary predisposition, hair loss can be caused by other factors: Regaine does not prevent hair loss caused by certain drugs, nutritional disorders (iron or vitamin A deficiency in the body), and hair loss due to tight hairstyles.
The patient should be warned about the need to consult a doctor in cases where hair loss began suddenly, baldness is focal in nature and the patient has a pathology from the cardiovascular system.
If systemic side effects appear (chest pains, palpitations, dizziness, decreased blood pressure, sudden weight gain, swelling of the arms and / or legs), as well as redness and irritation at the site of rubbing, the drug should be discontinued and, if necessary, appropriate therapy should be prescribed.
In case of contact with eyes, damaged skin or mucous membranes, immediately rinse the affected area with plenty of running cold water.
Inhalation of the drug when spraying should be avoided.
In some patients, after using the drug, a change in the color and structure of the hair was observed.
Avoid rinsing the drug, hair can be wetted no earlier than 4 hours after applying Regain.
During the period of application of Regain, you can use hair care products (including hairspray).
In this case, you should first apply the drug and let the treated skin area dry completely, and then apply care products.
Currently available data show that dyeing hair, perming or using conditioners does not reduce the effectiveness of Regaine, provided that the preparation is completely washed off the hair and scalp prior to these procedures.
