pharmachologic effect

Rauwolfia alkaloids have hypotensive and antiarrhythmic effects. The sedative effect is less pronounced than that of reserpine, but in terms of hypotensive effect they are practically not inferior to reserpine, while in some cases they are better tolerated.

The antihypertensive effect develops more slowly than that of reserpine.

Drug interactions

It is prescribed with caution together with quinidine, guanethidine, cardiac glycosides, beta-blockers (risk of increased severity of negative chronotropic and dromotropic action).
