Clinical and pharmacological group: Anti-climacteric drug
Pharmaco-therapeutic group: Anti-climacteric agent
pharmachologic effect
Anti-climacteric agent. The amino acid ?-alanine counteracts the rapid release of histamine, but does not have antihistaminic activity, because does not cause blockade of histamine H1 receptors.
It has a direct effect on the expansion of peripheral skin vessels, which underlies autonomic reactions during menopause (hot flashes, a feeling of warmth, fever, headache). These vasomotor reactions are caused by the activity of thermoregulatory centers in the hypothalamus due to imbalances in the balance of cerebral neurotransmitters that occur when the secretion of hormones by the ovaries stops. Beta-alanine contributes to saturation of peripheral neurotransmitter receptors.

Hot flashes during menopause.
