Antifungal polyene antibiotic from the macrolide group with a wide spectrum of action. Has a fungicidal effect. Natamycin binds sterols of cell membranes, disrupting their integrity and function, which leads to the death of microorganisms. Most pathogenic yeasts, especially Candida albicans , are sensitive to natamycin . Dermatophytes are less sensitive to natamycin. Resistance to natamycin does not occur in clinical practice. Natamycin in tablets, due to the enteric coating, acts only in the intestine.
