Pharmacological action
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Indirectly inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2) and inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins.
Phenylbutazone inhibits the synthesis of ATP-dependent mucopolysaccharides.
Butadion is used to eliminate pain and reduce swelling associated with the inflammatory process. When applied topically, it causes the weakening or disappearance of joint pain at rest and during movement.
Reduces morning stiffness and swelling of joints, helps increase range of motion.
Indications
Post-traumatic inflammation of the soft tissues and joints, for example, as a result of sprains, strains and bruises.
Rheumatic diseases of soft tissues (tendovaginitis, bursitis, damage to periarticular tissues), muscle pains of rheumatic and non-rheumatic origin.
Pain and swelling associated with diseases of the muscles and joints.
Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Osteoarthrosis.
Sciatica.
lumbago.

Contraindications
Data on an attack of bronchial obstruction, allergic rhinitis, urticaria after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs in history.
I and III trimesters of pregnancy.
Breastfeeding period.
Violation of the integrity of the skin at the site of the alleged application.
Children under 14 years old.
Concomitant use with other drugs containing phenylbutazone.
Hypersensitivity to phenylbutazone or other components of the drug, to acetylsalicylic acid and other NSAIDs.
Special instructions
If skin redness occurs, therapy should be discontinued.
Ointment should only be applied to intact skin, avoiding contact with open wounds. After application, an occlusive dressing should not be applied. Do not allow the drug to enter the eyes and mucous membranes.
The drug should not be used to treat deep vein thrombophlebitis. To prevent photosensitivity, protect your skin from direct sunlight. When used together with other dosage forms of Butadion, the maximum daily dose of this drug should be considered.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms
Data on the influence of Butadion on the ability to drive a car and engage in other activities that require concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions are not provided.
Composition of
1 g of ointment contains:
Active ingredient:
phenylbutazone 50 mg.
Excipients:
methyl parahydroxybenzoate,
sodium carboxymethyl cellulose,
silicon dioxide colloidal,
polysorbate 60,
glycerol 85%,
propylene glycol,
paraffin.
Dosage and Administration
Externally.
Adults and children over the age of 14 years: the drug is applied in a thin layer, a strip of 2-3 cm above the focus of inflammation without rubbing 2-3 times / day. The course of treatment is 7-10 days. After 10 days of use, consult a doctor.
Elderly patients: no special regimen is needed.
Side effects
Local reactions: eczema, photosensitivity, contact dermatitis (itching, redness, puffiness of the treated area of the skin of papules, vesicles, peeling.
Allergic reactions: urticaria, angioedema, bronchospasm, generalized skin rash.
Drug Interactions
No clinically significant interaction of Butadion with other drugs has been established.
The use of Butadione with other NSAIDs should be avoided.
Butadione may potentiate photosensitizing drugs.
Overdose
Extremely low absorption of the active components of the drug when used externally makes overdosage virtually impossible.
Symptoms: Systemic adverse reactions characteristic of NSAIDs may occur if swallowed large amounts of ointment (more than 20 g) are accidentally swallowed.
Treatment: gastric lavage, activated charcoal required.
Storage Conditions
Store at 8 to 15 РC out of the reach of children.
