DESCRIPTION

Pharmacef DC (Farmacefum DC) is a veterinary drug used for the prevention (instantaneous start) of mastitis and the treatment of cows with mastitis. In appearance, the drug is an oily suspension from white to cream color.

COMPOSITION

One syringe (5.0 g) contains 383.5 mg of cefapirin benzathine salt (respectively 300.0 mg of cefapirin), excipients, base up to 5.0 g.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Cefapirin, which is part of the drug, belongs to the first generation antibiotics of the cephalosporin group.

Cefapirin has a wide spectrum of bactericidal action against many gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic, facultative anaerobic and anaerobic bacteria, such as: Arcanobacterium pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptocoeccus, dysgalactia spp. , Corynebacterium bovis, Proteus vulgaris, Clostridium perfringens and other pathogens of mastitis, with the exception of enterococci.

The drug is resistant to the action of penicillinase and retains its activity under anaerobic and aerobic conditions.

Cefapirin has a bactericidal effect on microorganisms in the growth phase. The antibacterial effect is associated with the specific ability of cefapirin to inhibit the biosynthesis of peptoglycan of the wall of microorganisms, which leads to their death.

When administered intracisternally, cefapirin is poorly absorbed, providing high antibacterial concentrations of the drug in the udder tissues for a long time. After application of the drug during the dry period, a high concentration of the active substance in the secretion of the udder remains for 16 - 28 days.

Pharmacef DC is used for the prophylaxis (instant start) of mastitis and the treatment of cows with mastitis in the dry period caused by microorganisms sensitive to cephalosporin antibiotics.

The drug is administered intracisternally for prophylactic purposes in healthy, and for therapeutic purposes in the affected quarters of the udder, once, after the last milking before transfer to the dry period, but no later than 35 days before the expected calving, in a dose the contents of one syringe (5 g) one quarter of the udder.

Then the cannula of the syringe is removed from the nipple canal and the nipple is clamped with fingers for 1 - 2 minutes. A gentle massage of the nipple is carried out from the bottom up to better distribute the drug.
