Pharmacological action
Pancreatin - a digestive enzyme. Compensates for insufficiency of exocrine pancreatic function.
Amylase, lipase, and protease enzymes that make up pancreatin facilitate the digestion of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, which contributes to their more complete absorption in the small intestine.
Indications
Lack of exocrine pancreatic function (chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, etc.).
Chronic inflammatory and dystrophic diseases of the stomach, intestines, liver, gall bladder after resection or irradiation of these organs, accompanied by disorders of digestion, flatulence, diarrhea (as part of combination therapy).
To improve digestion in patients with normal gastrointestinal function in cases of nutritional errors.
Preparation for abdominal x-ray and ultrasound.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug, acute pancreatitis, exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis.
Special instructions
The safety of pancreatin during pregnancy is not well understood.
Use is possible in cases where the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
In cystic fibrosis, the use of pancreatin in high doses is not recommended due to an increased risk of developing strictures (fibrotic colonopathy). The dose should be adequate to the amount of enzymes which is necessary for the absorption of fats, taking into account the quality and quantity of food consumed.
Composition
1 tablet contains an enhanced concentration of enzymes: amylase - not less than 4620 PIECES of lipase - not less than 3850 PIECES of protease - (275 - 500) PIECES.
Dosage and administration of
Pancreatin is taken with meals without chewing and drinking plenty of water. The dose of the drug depends on the age of the patient and the degree of pancreatic function failure.
For adults, the single dose is 0.5-1 g, the daily dose is 4 g.
For children aged 6-7 years, the single dose is 250 mg, 8-9 years old - 250-500 mg, 10-14 years - 500 mg
The duration of treatment can vary from several days to several months and even years (if replacement therapy is necessary).
Side effects
Allergic reactions.
In some cases, diarrhea, constipation, a feeling of discomfort in the stomach, nausea (a causal relationship between the development of these reactions and the action of pancreatin has not been established, because these phenomena relate to symptoms of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency).
With prolonged use in high doses, the development of hyperuricosuria, an increase in the level of uric acid in the blood plasma are possible.
When using pancreatin in high doses in children, perianal irritation and irritation of the oral mucosa are possible.
Drug interaction
With the simultaneous use of pancreatin with iron preparations, a decrease in the absorption of the latter is possible. The simultaneous use of antacids containing calcium carbonate and / or magnesium hydroxide can lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of pancreatin.
Storage conditions
In a dry, cool place at a temperature not exceeding 20 РC.
