Pharmacological action

Pancreatic enzymes that make up pancreatin have a proteolytic, amylolytic and lipolytic effect and promote the breakdown of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, improve the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), normalize digestion processes
Mezim tablets 20,000 are coated with an acid-resistant solution under the influence of hydrochloric acid of the stomach and, thus, protects the enzymes contained in the preparation from inactivation. Dissolution of the membrane and the release of enzymes occurs at pH close to neutral or slightly alkaline.
Indications
Initial Alzheimer's type dementia (Alzheimer's disease) and cerebrovascular dementia
Peripheral neuropathy of various etiologies
Primary and secondary involutional syndromes against the background of vascular encephalopathies, mental focus and memory efficiency.accuracy of exocrine pancreatic function (chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, etc.)

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug

Dosage and administration of
The dose of Mezim® 20000 is set individually depending on the disease and the severity of symptoms.
Unless otherwise indicated, adults should take 1-2 tablets of Mezim® 20000 with meals. The drug is taken orally without breaking or chewing the tablet (the effectiveness of the Mezim® 20000 preparation may decrease with chewing and pancreatic enzymes upon release can irritate the oral mucosa), washed down with a sufficient amount of liquid (for example, a glass of water).
The daily dose of pancreatic enzymes corresponding to 15000-20000 PIECES of lipase / kg of body weight is not recommended to be exceeded.
Increasing the dose should be carried out only under the supervision of a doctor, while focusing on the symptoms (for example, a decrease in steatorrhea and abdominal pain).
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor and can vary from several days (with digestive disorders due to errors in diet) to several months and even years (if necessary, constant replacement therapy).

Dose for children and adults with cystic fibrosis
In patients with cystic fibrosis, the dose should be selected taking into account the severity of the symptoms of the disease, results of control of steatorrhea and maintenance of an adequate nutritional status (see section "Special instructions").
Dose should not exceed 10,000 units of lipase / kg body weight per day.
If, after treatment, improvement does not occur or the symptoms worsen, or new symptoms appear, consult a doctor.
Use the drug only according to the indications, the method of use and at the doses indicated in the instructions.
Side effects
Possible side effects are listed below in descending incidence: very often (? 1/10), often (> 1/100, <1/10), infrequently (> 1/1000, <1/100), rarely (> 1/10000, <1/1000), very rarely (<1/10000), frequency not established (according to available data it is impossible to estimate).
Immune system disorders
Very rare: immediate allergic reactions (such as skin rash, urticaria, sneezing, lacrimation, bronchospasm, dyspnea), gastrointestinal hypersensitivity.
Disorders of the gastrointestinal tract
Very rare: diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, stricture formation in the ileocecal and ascending parts of the colon in patients with cystic fibrosis with high doses of pancreatin.
Genitourinary disorders
Frequency unknown: hyperuricosuria (see Special Instructions).
If you have any side effects that are indicated in the instructions or are aggravated, or you notice any other side effects that are not listed in the instructions, inform your doctor.
Drug interaction
It is possible to reduce the absorption of folic acid while it is used with pancreatin preparations. The effect of hypoglycemic agents for oral administration (such as acarbose, miglitol) may decrease with the simultaneous use of digestive enzymes with enzymes that break down carbohydrates (for example, amylase) with drugs.

Overdose
Symptoms: hyperuricosuria and hyperuricemia (especially in patients with cystic fibrosis, receiving high doses of enzyme preparations).
Treatment: symptomatic therapy, withdrawal of the drug.
