Pharmacological action
Nitroxoline is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial and antiprotozoal drug for the treatment of urinary tract infections. Nitroxoline selectively inhibits the synthesis of bacterial DNA, forms complexes with metal-containing enzymes of the microbial cell, and acts as gram-positive microorganisms: Staphylococcus spp. (including S.aureus), Streptococcus spp. (including beta-hemolytic streptococci, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis), Corynebacterium spp., Bacillus subtilis and gram-negative microorganisms: N.gonorrhoeae, E. coli, Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp., Salmonigella spp. ., Enterobacter spp.
Nitroxoline is also active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Trichomonas vaginalis, some types of fungi (Candida spp., dermatophytes, molds, some pathogens of deep mycoses).
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, nitroxoline is well absorbed from the digestive tract. It is excreted mainly by the kidneys unchanged. With a single dose of 100 mg of the drug, the minimum bacteriostatic concentration in the urine lasts up to 3 hours, after 400 mg - up to 7 hours.
Indications
Infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract caused by susceptible microorganisms (including pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis), epididymitis
infected adenoma or carcinoma of the prostate gland, etc.)
prophylaxis of treatment of infectious complications and treatment of infectious complications cystoscopy after surgery on the kidneys and urinary tract).
Contraindications
Impaired renal function accompanied by oligo- or anuria, severe liver disease, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, cataracts, neuritis, pregnancy, lactation, hypersensitivity to quinoline drugs.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Nitroxoline is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
Special instructions
With Nitroxoline, the urine is saffron yellow.

Dosage and administration of
For adults, the dose of nitroxoline is 600-800 mg / day. Multiplicity of admission is 3-4 times / day. with an interval of 6-8 hours. The course of treatment is 10-14 days.
Maximum dose: 1-1.2 g.
For children, the dose of nitroxoline is 10-30 mg / kg / day. in 3-4 doses.
Side effects of the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite in isolated cases - impaired liver function.
Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching.
From the side of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: in isolated cases - ataxia, headache, paresthesia, polyneuropathy with prolonged use, a case of development of optic neuritis is described.
From the cardiovascular system: in isolated cases - tachycardia.
Drug interaction
When combined with Nitroxoline and drugs of the tetracycline group, a summation of the effects of each drug is observed, with nystatin and levorin - potentiation of the action. To avoid the summation of the negative neurotropic effect, nitroxoline cannot be combined with nitrofurans.
Overdose
Overdose with nitroxolin is possible and is manifested by the development of the following symptoms - tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, allergic rashes, headache and sensory disturbances. Treatment of overdose is carried out by temporary withdrawal of the drug and the use of symptomatic agents.
