Latin name
FURACILIN
Pharmacological action of
Antimicrobial agent from the group of nitrofuran derivatives. It has a bacteriostatic effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (staphylococci, streptococci, Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella, Escherichia), as well as Trichomonas and Giardia. Microorganisms that are resistant to antibiotics and sulfonamides are sensitive to furacilin. Furacilin resistance develops slowly and does not reach a high degree.
Indications
- purulent infected wounds, bedsores,
ulcers - infected burns of the II and III degrees
- preparation of the granulating surface for skin transplants
- osteomyelitis - empyema of the pleura
- dysentery
- anaerobic infection of the wound surface
- furuncle of the external auditory duct of the ear and nose
Contraindications
- severe renal dysfunction
- allergic dermatoses
- hypersensitivity to nitrofuran derivatives.
Composition
Solution for topical and external use 0.02% 1 nitrofural
Dosage and administration
For purulent wounds, pressure sores, ulcers, burns of the II and III degree, to prepare the granulating surface for skin transplants and the secondary suture, irrigate the wound with an aqueous solution of furacilin and apply wet dressings.
In osteomyelitis, the cavity is washed after the operation with an aqueous solution of furatsilin and a wet dressing is applied.
With empyema, pleura is sucked out by pus, washed in the pleural cavity, followed by the introduction of 20-100 ml of an aqueous solution of furacilin into the cavity.
In case of anaerobic infection, in addition to the usual surgical intervention, the wound is treated with an aqueous solution of furacilin. In conjunctivitis and scrofulous diseases of the eyes, an aqueous solution of furacilin is instilled into the conjunctival sac.
Side effects
When applied topically, furatsilin usually well tolerated. In some cases, dermatitis is possible, requiring a temporary break or discontinuation of the drug.
