Pharmacological action
Methionine regulates nitrogen balance. It has a mobile methyl group and takes part in methylation processes that ensure the formation of phospholipids, creatine, adrenaline, choline and other biologically important compounds that neutralize toxic products. Methionine slows down the deposition of neutral fat in the liver, and also has a lipotropic effect (removing excess fat from the liver). Methionine modulates the effects of vitamins (folic and ascorbic acids, B12) and hormones.
Has a metabolic and hepatoprotective effect. The use of methionine in a balanced ratio with other amino acids prevents its toxic effect.
Contraindications
Viral hepatitis, severe liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, hypersensitivity to the drug. The drug is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.
Caution. Renal failure (danger of an increase in hyperazotemia) Metionin is not recommended for viral hepatitis.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
According to indications and when prescribed by a doctor, methionine may be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Special instructions
The drug should be prescribed in a balanced ratio with other amino acids. The unbalanced use of methionine in large doses can have a damaging effect on liver cells and other organs. The drug does not affect the ability to drive a car and engage in potentially dangerous activities that require increased attention and speed of mental and motor reactions.
