DESCRIPTION
Mexidol-vet - has antioxidant, antihypoxic and membrane-protective properties, increases the resistance of the animal's body to the effects of various damaging factors to oxygen-dependent pathological conditions (shock, hypoxia, ischemia, cerebrovascular accident). The drug is a round flat tablet with a scored in the middle, from white to white with a cream shade, weighing 0.3 g.
COMPOSITION
Mexidol-Vet tablets as an active ingredient in 1 tablet contain 50mg or 125mg of mexidol (ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate), as well as auxiliary forming components: in a tablet containing 50mg of mexidol - lactose, potato starch, magnesium or calcium stearate; in a tablet containing 125 mg of mexidol - lactose, white clay, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and magnesium stearate.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Mexidol-Vet has pronounced antioxidant, antihypoxic and membrane-protective properties, increases the resistance of the animal's body to the effects of various damaging factors to oxygen-dependent pathological conditions (shock, hypoxia, ischemia, cerebral circulation disorders).
Meksidol-Vet improves the metabolism of brain tissues and their blood supply, stabilizes the membrane structures of blood cells (erythrocytes and platelets), improves microcirculation and rheological properties of blood, reduces platelet aggregation. Possessing a hypolipidemic effect, the drug reduces the content of total cholesterol and low density lipoproteins.
The mechanism of action of Mexidol-Vet is the ability to cause an increase in the compensatory activation of aerobic glycolysis and to reduce the degree of inhibition of oxidative processes in the Krebs cycle under hypoxic conditions with an increase in the content of ATP and creatine phosphate, as well as to activate the energy-synthesizing function of mitochondria.
Mexidol-Vet inhibits lipid peroxidation, increases the activity of superoxide dismutase, modulates the activity of enzymes and membrane receptor complexes, improving synaptic transmission and transport of mediators.
When administered orally, Meksidol-Vet is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and enters the blood, organs and tissues of the animal. It is excreted from the body of the animal in the urine, mainly in the glucuronoconjugated form. Mexidol-Vet tablets, according to the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, are classified as low-hazardous substances, do not have local irritating, cumulative, embryotoxic and teratogenic properties.
INDICATIONS
Prescribed to dogs and cats for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes independently and in complex therapy for acute and chronic cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary insufficiency, in order to prevent anesthetic and post-anesthetic complications, in the post-traumatic and postoperative periods, including traumatic brain injury, with pathology of the skin (dermatitis, eczema, trophic ulcers and wounds), to improve the condition of the skin and hair, during periods of extreme stress associated with the adaptation of animals to new conditions (transportation, participation in exhibitions and competitions), with exogenous organic diseases brain (as a result of neuroinfections), acute disorders of cerebral circulation, epilepsy, episyndrome, traumatic brain injury,in veterinary geriatrics (caring for old animals) with age-related disorders of the functions of the animal's body (sluggish chronic diseases, neurodermatitis, dermatitis associated with impaired peripheral circulation).
APPLICATION
Mexidol-Vet tablets are used for dogs and cats inside after feeding the animal in a therapeutic dose 2 - 3 times a day. The therapeutic dose of the drug depends on the severity of the clinical course of the disease: in the acute period of the disease, the therapeutic dose of Mexidol-Vet is 10-15 mg per 1 kg of animal weight, then the dose is reduced to 5-7.5 mg per 1 kg of animal weight.
In the treatment of cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary insufficiency, the drug is used in a therapeutic dose of 10-15 mg per 1 kg of animal weight 2-3 times a day for 7-10 days, then the dose of Mexidol-Vet is reduced by 2 times and the drug is used for 10 -14 days. In chronic pathology, in order to maintain the therapeutic effect, it is recommended to use the drug in a dose of 5-7.5 mg per 1 kg of animal weight 2 times a day in courses of 3 weeks 2-4 times a year. In order to prevent anesthetic and post-anesthetic complications, Meksidol-Vet is used 2-3 days before surgery and within 2-3 days after surgery in a therapeutic dose 2 times a day.
During transportation, participation in exhibitions and competitions Mexidol-Vet tablets are used in a therapeutic dose 2-3 times a day for 3-5 days before the intended event.
As a therapeutic and prophylactic agent in veterinary geriatrics (caring for old animals), Mexidola-Vet tablets are used for dogs and cats over 7 years of age at a dose of 5 mg per 1 kg of animal weight 2 times a day for 15-30 days, a second course is carried out after 3-4 months.

The dose, duration of the course of treatment and the frequency of use of Mexidol-Vet are determined by the attending veterinarian, depending on the physiological state of the animal and the course of the disease. In severe pathological conditions of an animal, the use of the drug begins with parenteral administration of Mexidol-Vet solution for injection, followed by a switch to oral use of Mexidol-Vet tablets. The use of Mexidol-Vet tablets does not exclude the use of other means of pathogenetic and symptomatic therapy.
SIDE EFFECTS
