Levomekol ointment contains in 100 g as an active ingredient levomycetin - 0.75 g and methyluracil (dioxomethyltetrahydropyrimidine) - 4.0 g, and as auxiliary substances: polyethylene oxide 1500 - 19.05 g and polyethylene oxide 400 - 76.2 g.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Levomekol-vet ointment refers to combined antibacterial drugs for external use.
Levomycetin - D - (-) - threo-1-para-Nitrophenyl-2-dichloroacetyl-amino-propanediol-1,3 is an antibiotic of the chloramphenicol group. Effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms: staphylococci, streptococci, diplococci, salmonella, pasteurella, escherichia, proteus. Active against gram-negative anaerobes. Acts on strains of bacteria resistant to penicillin, streptomycin, tetracyclines, sulfonamides. Weakly active against acid-fast bacteria, clostridia and protozoa. The mechanism of action of chloramphenicol consists in inhibiting the synthesis of proteins of the microbial cell, blocking the formation of a peptide bond between amino acids and t-RNA, binding of peptides to peptidyl t-RNA.
Methyluracil refers to pyrimidine derivatives, which are building blocks of nucleic acids. The drug has anabolic and anti-catabolic activity, has a hematopoietic, leukopoietic, immunostimulating, anti-inflammatory effect.
Normalizing nucleic acid metabolism, Levomekol accelerates the processes of cell regeneration in wounds, accelerating the growth and granulation maturation of tissue and epithelization, stimulates erythro- and leukopoiesis, cellular and humoral factors of immunity. Levomycetin and methyluracil easily penetrate deep into tissues without damaging biological membranes. In the presence of pus and necrotic tissue, the antibacterial effect of the ointment remains.
Levomekol-vet ointment according to the degree of impact on the body according to GOST 12.1.007 refers to low-hazard substances (hazard class 4), in the recommended doses they do not have a local irritating and resorptive-toxic effect.
INDICATIONS
The ointment is used for the local treatment of purulent wounds infected, including mixed microflora (including staphylococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli), in the first phase of the wound process (purulent-necrotic).
APPLICATION
Levomekol-vet ointment is applied externally, applying it with a thin even layer on the entire affected skin surface every day 1-2 times a day until recovery (if necessary, use a bandage), but not more than 10 days. To inject the drug into the purulent cavities, gauze napkins are impregnated with ointment and the wound is loosely filled with them, or, after preheating the ointment to 35-36 В° C, it is injected into the cavity through a catheter (drainage tube) using a syringe.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Violations of the recommended processing times for animals should be avoided, as this can lead to a decrease in effectiveness. If the next treatment with a drug is missed, its use should be continued as soon as possible, then the interval between treatments does not change.
The use of Levomekol-vet ointment excludes the use of other drugs for external use of a similar purpose.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
A contraindication to the use of the drug is the increased individual sensitivity of the animal to chloramphenicol and methyluracil.
OVERDOSE
Symptoms of a drug overdose have not been established.
SIDE EFFECTS
Side effects and complications when using the ointment in accordance with this instruction, as a rule, are not observed. With an increased sensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug, it is possible to develop local or general allergic reactions (rash, redness). When signs of skin irritation appear, the treatment is stopped, the ointment is removed with a swab and washed off with water.
