DESCRIPTION:
Levamisole 10% (Levamisolum 10%) is a medicinal antihelmite preparation for cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, dogs. The drug is a clear, colorless, odorless liquid.
COMPOSITION
1 ml of injection solution contains 100 mg of levamisole.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Levamisole exhibits nematodicidal action against nematodes of the gastrointestinal tract and lungs, parasitizing in cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and dogs. The mechanism of action of the drug is to disrupt energy metabolism in nematodes, inhibition of fumarate reductase, which leads to the death of the parasite. After parenteral administration, levamisole is rapidly resorbed, the maximum concentration of the drug is reached in organs and tissues after 30 minutes and remains at a therapeutic level for 6 to 9 hours. Levamisole is excreted from the body mainly with urine, partly with feces. The drug belongs to compounds moderately toxic for warm-blooded animals (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in a therapeutic dose it does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic and mutagenic effects.
INDICATIONS
Dictyocaulosis, hemonkhoz, ostertagiosis, trichostrongylosis, cooperiosis, nematodyrosis, esophagostomosis, bunostomosis, strongyloidosis of cattle, sheep and goats. Ascariasis, esophagostomosis, trichocephalosis, strongyloidosis, chiostrongylosis, porcine metastrongylosis. Toxocariasis, toxascariasis and hookworm infections in dogs.
APPLICATION AND DOSAGE
The drug is administered subcutaneously without prior fasting diet and laxatives once. The therapeutic dose is 7.5 mg of levamisole (active substance) per 1 kg of animal weight, which corresponds to: cattle - 7.5 ml per 100 kg of weight (but not more than 30 ml per animal); sheep, goats, pigs and dogs - 0.75 ml of the drug per 10 kg of weight. If the volume of the injected solution is more than 15 ml, it should be administered to the animal in 2 - 3 places. Before mass deworming, each batch of the drug is preliminarily tested on a small group (5-10 heads) of animals. In the absence of complications within 2 - 3 days, deworming all livestock.
SIDE EFFECTS
With increased individual sensitivity to levamisole in some animals, excitement, increased salivation, increased frequency of defecation and urination, ataxia are observed. These symptoms usually go away spontaneously without the use of therapeutic agents.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Weakened, emaciated and sick with infectious diseases animals, as well as females in the last third of pregnancy, are not subject to deworming. Levamisole 10% should not be used simultaneously, as well as within 10 days before and after the use of organophosphate drugs, pyrantel, morantel and chloramphenicol.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed 7 days after deworming. In the event of the forced slaughter of animals before the established deadline, the meat can be used for feeding carnivores or for the production of meat and bone meal. Milk from animals treated with levamisole must not be used for food purposes within 3 days after deworming. It can be used to feed animals.
