Pharmacological action
Antigaucoma drug for local use. Latanoprost is an analogue of prostaglandin F2 and a selective FP receptor agonist. It reduces intraocular pressure by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor and has an anti-glaucoma effect. The main mechanism of action of latanoprost is associated with an increase in uveoscleral outflow. It does not significantly affect the production of aqueous humor and does not affect the blood-ophthalmic barrier.
Decrease in intraocular pressure begins 3-4 hours after drug administration, the maximum effect is observed after 8-12 hours, duration of action is not less than 24 hours.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption
It penetrates well through the cornea, with hydrolysis of latanoprost to a biologically active form - latanoprost acids. Cmax of latanoprost in aqueous humor is achieved approximately 2 hours after topical administration of the drug.
In the tissues of the eye, latanoprost acid is practically not metabolized. Metabolism occurs mainly in the liver.
Metabolism and excretion of
T1 / 2 is 17 min. The main metabolites - 1,2-dinor and 1,2,3,4-tetranor metabolites do not have or have weak biological activity, excreted by the kidneys.
Indications
Open angle glaucoma.
Increased intraocular pressure.
Contraindications
Individual hypersensitivity to latanoprost, benzalkonium chloride or other components of the
drug age up to 18 years.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Pregnancy
There is no sufficient experience with the use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation. The use of Latanoprost during pregnancy is possible only under the supervision of a doctor and only if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the risk of possible side effects in the fetus.
Lactation
Latanoprost and its metabolites can pass into breast milk. If it is necessary to prescribe Xalatamax during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued.

Dosage and administration
The drug is instilled in the conjunctival sac of the eye 1 drop 1 time per day in the evening.
When skipping a dose, the next one is administered as usual (i.e. do not double the dose).
With more frequent administration of the drug, its effectiveness decreases.
The duration of the course of treatment and the possibility of its recurrence are determined by the doctor.
Side effects
