DESCRIPTION
Gestrenol drops (Gestrenol guttae) for cats - a drug for the regulation of sexual heat in cats. In appearance, the drug is a clear liquid from yellow to yellow-green in color.
COMPOSITION
As active ingredients: mepregenol propionate - 4.00 mg and ethinylestradiol 0.20 mg.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Pharmacotherapeutic group: hormones and their antagonists.
Gestrenol drops is a bihormonal contraceptive drug containing hormones as active ingredients: gestagen - mepregenol propionate and estrogen - ethinylestradiol.
Mepregenol propionate blocks the mediobasal zones in the hypothalamus that release gonadoliberins (follicle-stimulating and luteinizing hormones), which are the trigger mechanism for the secretion of follicle-stimulating (FSH) and luteinizing (LH) hormones by the pituitary gland, and the development of feline hormones in the cat for a decrease in the level of testosterone in the blood, inhibition of sexual reflexes and spermatogenesis.
Ethinylestradiol in combination with mepregenol propionate enhances the contraceptive effect, changing the biological properties of the vaginal environment in cats, the viscosity of the cervical mucus, which inhibits sperm motility, and changes in the endometrium of the uterus prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg.
After oral administration, mepregenol propionate and ethinyl estradiol are rapidly absorbed in the intestine and, biotransformed in the liver, are completely excreted from the body in the urine in the form of metabolites within 48 hours.
According to the degree of impact on the body, Gestrenol drops are classified as low-hazard substances (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses it does not have a negative effect on the animal body.
MODE OF APPLICATION
Bihormonal contraceptive drug.
Gestrenol drops are used to regulate sexual desire: for cats - to interrupt sexual arousal and eliminate undesirable behavior associated with it: aggressiveness, increased excitability, labeling of the territory, as well as to maintain a calming effect (prevention of sexual arousal).
Gestrenol drops are used orally, dripping on the root of the tongue, on the nose or in food. The dosage depends on the body weight of the animal and the purpose of application: Cats regulation of sexual activity and associated aggressive behavior, marking of the territory, interruption of sexual activity: up to 5 kg - 4 drops from 3 to 5 days; 6-10kg - 5-8 drops from 3 to 5 days at the first signs of sexual heat.
Note: The use of the drug is ineffective if more than 2 days have passed since the onset of sexual arousal. On the first day of the course, young cats are prescribed 8 drops, then according to the scheme. The best effect is achieved if, after calming the animal, add another day of course intake.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
The drug is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating cats, animals that have not reached puberty, with breast neoplasms, diseases of the genital organs, diabetes mellitus, urolithiasis and individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE
The shelf life of the medicinal product, subject to storage conditions in the manufacturer's sealed packaging, is 2 years from the date of production. The medicinal product must not be used after the expiration date. Store the medicinal product in the manufacturer's sealed packaging, protected from light, separate from food and feed, at a temperature of 0 В° C to 25 В° C.

GestrenolВ® drops are packaged in 1.5 ml polyethylene bottles with dispensing nozzles. The polyethylene bottle is sealed with a screw cap with first opening control, packed in a blister and individually packed in cardboard boxes along with instructions for use.
