DESCRIPTION

Gentham is a complex antibiotic for animals (International non-proprietary name: amoxicillin + gentamicin).

COMPOSITION

1 ml contains 150 mg of amoxicillin trihydrate and 40 mg of gentamicin sulfate, as well as auxiliary components: butylhydroxytoluene, magnesium stearate, benzyl alcohol and vegetable oil.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Amoxicillin trihydrate and gentamicin sulfate exhibit synergistic action against a wide range of microorganisms that cause infectious diseases in animals: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Actinomyces spp., Meningococcus spp., Escherichia spp., Shigella spp., Saltemonella spp., Saltemonella spp. ., Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium spp., Haemophilus spp., Bacillus spp., Actinobacillus spp., Bordetella spp., Fusobacterium spp., Moraxella spp., Corynebacterium spp., Campylobacter spp., Protein mirabyplothrix penicillinase-forming bacteria Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Pseudomonas spp., Acinetobacter spp. Amoxicillin trihydrate inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, and gentamicin sulfate (an antibiotic of the aminoglycoside series), penetrating the bacterial cell membrane, irreversibly binds to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, thereby disrupting the process of protein synthesis. After the injection of Gentam, the maximum concentration of gentamicin sulfate in the blood serum is noted after 30-40 minutes, amoxicillin trihydrate - after 1 hour and is kept at a therapeutic level for about a day. The active ingredients of the drug are excreted from the body mainly unchanged in the urine and partly in the bile. According to the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, Gentham belongs to moderately hazardous substances. INDICATIONS

Prescribed for therapeutic purposes in horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs and cats for infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, genitourinary system, joints, soft tissues and skin, including necrobacteriosis, umbilical sepsis, atrophic rhinitis of pigs , mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome and other primary and secondary infections of bacterial etiology, the causative agents of which are sensitive to penicillins and aminoglycosides.

DOSES AND METHOD OF APPLICATION

Gentham is administered to animals subcutaneously or intramuscularly at a dose of 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight, which corresponds to 15 mg of amoxicillin trihydrate and 4 mg of gentamicin sulfate per 1 kg of animal weight. The duration of the course of treatment, depending on the severity of the course of the disease, is 2 - 5 days, which is determined individually in a particular case by a veterinarian.

The maximum volume of the drug for injection at one point should not exceed 20 ml for cattle and horses, 10 ml for pigs, sheep and calves, 5 ml for piglets, and 2.5 ml for dogs and cats.

Before use, the bottle with the suspension should be shaken thoroughly for 1 - 2 minutes. It is recommended to lightly massage the injection site after the introduction of Gentam. Avoid skipping the next dose of the drug, as this can lead to a decrease in therapeutic efficacy and the development of superinfection. If one dose is missed, the drug should be resumed as soon as possible according to the above scheme.

SIDE EFFECTS

In rare cases, with increased individual sensitivity and violation of the order of taking and dosing the drug, allergic reactions, refusal to feed, vomiting, impaired coordination of movements, severe swelling at the injection site of Gentam, diarrhea are possible, with prolonged use in high doses, neurotoxic reactions and thrombocytopenia are noted. In these cases, anticholinesterase drugs, calcium preparations are administered intravenously, symptomatic and desensitizing therapy is carried out, as well as detoxification of the body. At the injection site, slight edema may develop, which spontaneously resolves within 1 to 2 days and does not require treatment.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Increased individual sensitivity to antibiotics of the aminoglycoside and penicillin series. It is forbidden to administer the drug intravenously. Do not use in animals with severe renal failure with symptoms of azotemia and uremic syndrome, with a history of auditory neuritis and myasthenia gravis. It is forbidden to use the drug in females during pregnancy. Gents should not be mixed with other drugs in the same syringe, and also used simultaneously with bacteriostatic antimicrobial agents (inhibiting the growth of microorganisms, but not killing them) - macrolides, chloramphenicol, lincosamides, tetracyclines, sulfonamides, cephalosporins and fluoroquinolones. To reduce the likelihood of an increase in toxic properties, Gentham should not be prescribed with chemotherapy drugs, possessing oto- and nephrotoxicity. The drug is not compatible with muscle relaxants.

Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed no earlier than 30 days after the last application of Gentam. The meat of animals that were forcedly killed before the expiration of the specified period can be used as feed for fur animals.
