Gastric tube for large animals
DESCRIPTION
A gastric tube for the introduction of medicinal substances into the proventriculus of large animals, for pushing foreign bodies in the esophagus, and for washing the scar. It is a rubber tube (1600mm long with an outer diameter of 18mm and an inner diameter of 10mm). At one end of it there is a nylon tip with 4 holes through which the scar is irrigated, at the other - a nylon tip - a handle. The probe is equipped with a mandrel, which is inserted into the inner cavity of the probe and serves to push foreign bodies into the esophagus.
APPLICATION
Before use, the probe is sterilized by boiling for 5-10 minutes. When the probe is introduced through the oral cavity, the animal's head is bent down, one of the existing yawns is inserted between the molars, or a special mouthpiece with a device in the form of an additional mouthpiece tube is inserted into the lumen of the probe.
The assistant, holding the yawner and monitoring the correct position of the mouth dilator, pulls the animal's tongue to the side. The inserted end of the probe is liberally lubricated with petroleum jelly.
The operator must carefully but fairly quickly insert the probe through the hard palate or mouthpiece opening into the throat. After that, the probe is slowly advanced to the stomach cavity.
Probing the proventriculus in cattle, buffalo and deer is similar to probing the stomach of a horse.
After use, the probe should be disassembled, rinsed, sterilized, wiped and dried.
