The total dose of polidocanol for sclerosing varicose veins and hemorrhoids should not exceed 2 mg / kg of body weight per day. For a patient weighing 70 kg, up to 140 mg of polidocanol (28 ml of a 0.5% solution of ethoxysclerol, 14 ml of a 1% solution of ethoxysclerol, 4.6 ml of a 3% solution of ethoxysclerol) can be administered.

Sclerotherapy of varicose veins and telangiectasias: strictly intravenously with the leg horizontal or elevated by 30Ц45 ?, use a 0.5Ц3% solution in ampoules.

Sclerotherapy of subcutaneous varicose veins: 0.1Ц0.3 ml of a 0.5% solution per injection (depending on the size of the sclerosed veins).

Sclerotherapy of telangiectasia: 0.1Ц0.2 ml of 0.5% solution per injection.

Sclerotherapy of the central vein in telangiectasias: 0.1Ц0.2 ml of 1% solution per injection.

Sclerotherapy of small varicose veins: 0.1Ц0.3 ml of 1% solution per injection.

Sclerotherapy of medium-sized varicose veins: 0.5-1 ml of 2-3% solution per injection. At the first admission (especially in patients prone to hypersensitive reactions), one injection is made, at the next one, it can be administered several times, taking into account the maximum dose.

Sclerotherapy of hemorrhoids: use a 3% solution in ampoules, the first single dose - 0.5-2 ml of a 3% solution strictly under the mucous membrane above the node (in men, with a node located at 11 hours, no more than 0.5 ml is injected), again - after 1Ц2 weeks, 3 ml of a 3% solution.

Sclerosis of varicose veins of the esophagus and stomach. The total dose of polidocanol should not exceed 4 mg / kg of body weight. Use a 0.5-1% solution in vials, mainly paravasally (submucous, subepithelial) in the lower third of the esophagus (intravasal and combined - para- and intravasal injections are possible). When administered paravasally, it causes local edema, compressing varicose veins and facilitating scarring of the esophageal wall. In case of bleeding - 5-15 ml (up to 30 ml) of 0.5% solution in 1 ml portions until the bleeding stops; in the absence of bleeding - paravasally up to 40 ml of a 0.5% solution in 1 ml portions or intravasally - no more than 20 ml in 2 ml portions; with an interval of 5Ц7 days, the procedure is repeated 2Ц4 times using a 1% solution.

Side effect

Systemic reactions: fever, exudative pleurisy are possible; rarely - skin rash; very rarely - collapse, dizziness, difficulty breathing and a feeling of heaviness in the chest, nausea, visual disturbances, local sensory disturbances, metallic taste, anaphylactic shock.

Local reactions: depending on the injection site, necrosis and ulceration of the esophagus, dysphagia, esophageal stenosis, very rarely - esophageal perforation may develop; hyperpigmentation, periflebitis, thrombophlebitis, tissue necrosis (especially with paravasal administration); when sclerosing hemorrhoids - during and after the injection, transient pain is possible, very rarely - pain in the prostate gland, as well as transient erectile dysfunction.

With simultaneous use with drugs for anesthesia, there is a risk of developing an arrhythmogenic effect.
