DESCRIPTION
Equisect pasta is a drug for the treatment and prevention of nematodes and gadfly infestations in horses. The drug is a homogeneous paste-like mass of light brown color with a weak specific odor.
COMPOSITION
The drug in its composition contains 1% aversectin C as an active ingredient, as well as auxiliary components (polyethylene oxide-1500, polyethylene oxide-400, distilled glycerin, polyvinylpyrrolidone and tween-80).
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Aversectin C, which is part of the Equisect paste, is an antiparasitic agent of contact and systemic action, it is active against the imaginal and larval phases of development of nematodes, lice, bloodsuckers, nasopharyngeal larvae, gastric gadflies parasitizing in horses.
The mechanism of action of aversectin C consists in its effect on the magnitude of the current of chlorine ions through the membranes of the nerve and muscle cells of the parasite.
The main targets are glutamate-sensitive chlorine channels and gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors. A change in the current of chlorine ions disrupts the conduction of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of the parasite.
The maximum concentration of aversectin in the blood plasma of horses is observed 5 hours after oral administration of Equisect paste. Aversectin C is excreted from the body with feces, mainly unchanged.
According to the degree of impact on the body, it belongs to low-hazard substances (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007 76), in recommended doses it does not have a local irritant, resorptive-toxic, sensitizing, embryotoxic, teratogenic and mutagenic effect. Well tolerated by horses of different breeds and ages.
INDICATIONS
Equisect paste is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of strongyloidosis, trichonematidosis (cytostominoses), oxyurosis, probstmauriasis, parascariasis, strongyloidosis, trichostrongylosis, dictyocaulosis, paraphilariasis, setariosis, onchocerciasis, gabronema and rhytromesis.
APPLICATION
The drug is used for therapeutic purposes in horses once orally at the rate of 2 g per 100 kg of animal weight (0.2 mg / kg for DV).
The paste is squeezed onto the root of the tongue from a syringe-dispenser, which is introduced into the interdental space of the oral cavity and then the animal's head is raised for several seconds in order to prevent it from flowing out.
The volume of paste calculated for the horse's weight is set by moving the retainer along the stock and fixing the appropriate dose. Each division of the syringe corresponds to 2 g of paste.
With a therapeutic and prophylactic purpose for nematodes and gadfly invasions of adult horses, as well as for nematodes of suckling foals, the paste is used in a therapeutic dose under the control of ovo- and larvoscopy according to the recommendations presented in Tables 1 and 2, respectively.

Before mass treatments, each batch of the drug is tested on a small group of low-value horses (5-7 heads) of different age and weight. In the absence of complications within 3 days, they begin to process the entire livestock.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Emaciated, sick with infectious diseases and recovering animals, as well as milking mares, cannot be processed with Equisect paste.
SIDE EFFECTS
As a rule, side effects and complications when using the drug in accordance with this instruction are not observed. With an increased individual sensitivity of the animal to aversectin and the appearance of allergic reactions, the use of the drug is discontinued.
Slaughter of horses for meat is allowed no earlier than 3 days after the use of the medicinal product. Meat of animals that were forcedly killed before the expiration of the specified period can be used for animal feed or for the production of meat and bone meal.
Precautions
When working with Equisect paste, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety measures provided for when working with medicines.
Empty syringes from under the drug must not be used for domestic purposes, they are placed in a plastic bag and disposed of.
SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE
Store the drug in its original packaging, in a dry, dark place, separate from food and feed, at a temperature from 0 В° C to 25 В° C. The shelf life of the drug, subject to storage conditions, is 3 years from the date of manufacture.

The drug is produced in packaged 14 g in polymeric syringes-dispensers.
