DESCRIPTION
Drontal (Drontal) - tablets for oral use for deworming adult cats. In appearance, the drug is a viscous liquid of light yellow color. The tablet is white, yellowish at the break, with a dividing groove in the center, weighing 350 mg.
COMPOSITION
It contains 230 mg of pyrantel embonate and 20 mg of praziquantel as active ingredients, as well as auxiliary components.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
The active components of drontal praziquantel and pyrantela embonate exhibit synergistic action and have a destructive effect against round and tapeworms, including Toxocara cati (mystax), Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Ancylostoma braziliense, Taenocephalus, multidinum stenocephala, Echinococcus spp. Mesocestoides spp., Parasitic in cats. The mechanism of action of praziquantel consists in depolarization of neuromuscular ganglion blockers, disruption of glucose transport and microtubular function in cestodes, which leads to disruption of muscle innervation, paralysis and death of the parasite.
Praziquantel is rapidly absorbed in the intestines and distributed in internal organs and tissues, excreted in the urine mainly in a metabolized form. Pirantela embonate has a pronounced nematodicidal effect, causing an increase in the permeability of cell membranes, irreversible paralysis and muscle contracture in nematodes, which leads to the death and release of parasites from the gastrointestinal tract. Pyrantela embonate is partially absorbed in the intestine, rapidly metabolized and excreted from the body mainly in feces. According to the degree of impact on the body, Drontal belongs to low-hazard substances (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses it does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic and sensitizing effects. INDICATIONS
Prescribed to cats for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes with nematodes (toxocariasis, ankylostomiasis, uncinariosis) and cestodosis (teniasis, dipyldiosis, echinococcosis, mesocestoidosis).
DOSES AND METHOD OF APPLICATION
Drontal is administered to cats inside individually, once in the morning feeding with a small amount of food (in a piece of sausage, meat, with minced meat). If the animal refuses to feed with the drug, as well as kittens, drontal is injected forcibly onto the root of the tongue or in the form of an aqueous suspension using a syringe and a catheter. The drug is administered at a dose of 1 tablet per 4 kg of animal weight, which corresponds to 5 mg of praziquantel and 57.5 mg of pyrantel embonate per 1 kg of animal weight. A preliminary fasting diet and the use of laxatives before deworming are not required. For preventive purposes, deworming of cats is carried out on a quarterly basis, as well as before vaccination and mating.
SIDE EFFECTS
As a rule, side effects and complications when using the drontal in accordance with this instruction are not observed. With increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the active components of the drug, increased salivation, diarrhea or vomiting may occur, these symptoms are short-lived, disappear spontaneously and do not require the use of drugs.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Increased individual sensitivity to drug components. Should not be used in kittens younger than 3 weeks of age and pregnant cats in the first two thirds of pregnancy.
