Pharmacological action
Maxitrol is a combined preparation for topical use in ophthalmology. Glucocorticosteroid + antibiotics (aminoglycoside and cyclic polypeptide).
Neomycin
It has a bactericidal effect, disrupting the synthesis of bacterial cell protein. Active against: Staphylococcus aureus, Corynebacterium diphteriae, Streptococcus viridans, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, Aerobacter aerogenes, Haemophilus influenzae.
Polymyxin
B The mechanism of action of polymyxin B is mainly due to the blockade of the permeability of the cytoplasmic membrane of bacterial cells. Active against: Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Aerobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Koch-Weeks bacillus.
Dexamethasone
Glucocorticosteroid. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and desensitizing effects. It has an antiexudative effect. Dexamethasone effectively inhibits inflammatory processes.
The combination of glucocorticosteroid with antibiotics can reduce the risk of infection.
Indications
Infections of the eye and its appendages: Blepharitis.
Conjunctivitis.
Keratoconjunctivitis.
Blepharoconjunctivitis.
Keratitis.
Iridocyclitis.
Prevention of postoperative infectious complications.

Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Viral eye diseases (including keratitis caused by Herpes simplex, chicken pox).
Mycobacterial infection of the eyes.
Tuberculosis eye disease.
Shingles.
Fungal eye disease.
Condition after removal of a foreign body of the cornea.

Cataract.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
There is no sufficient experience with the use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation.
It is possible to use it to treat pregnant women as prescribed by the attending physician if the expected therapeutic effect exceeds the risk of developing possible side effects.
Discontinue use of the drug during lactation.
Composition of
1 ml of solution contains:
Active ingredients
Dexamethasone 1.0 mg.
Neomycin sulfate 3500 IU.
Polymyxin B Sulfate 6000 IU.
Excipients
Benzalkonium chloride solution, equivalent to benzalkonium sodium chloride, polysorbate 20, hypromellose * (4000 mPa.s), concentrated hydrochloric acid and / or sodium hydroxide to adjust pH, purified water.
Dosage and Administration
Topically.
With a mild infection
1-2 drops in the conjunctival sac 4-6 times a day.
In an acute severe infectious process
1-2 drops in the conjunctival sac every 60 minutes, with a decrease in the frequency of drug installations as inflammation decreases.
Side effects
Local. An allergic reaction, accompanied by itching and swelling of the eyelids, conjunctival hyperemia. Side effects due to the steroid component: increased intraocular pressure with possible subsequent development of glaucoma, damage to the optic nerve and visual fields (when using the drug for more than 10 days, monitoring of intraocular pressure is necessary), posterior subcapsular cataract, slowing the healing process. Topical use of steroids in diseases that cause thinning of the cornea or sclera can lead to their perforation.
Secondary infection. The development of a secondary infection is observed after the use of combined preparations containing GCS in combination with antibiotics. With prolonged use of steroids, the development of fungal infections of the cornea is possible. The appearance on the cornea of non-healing ulcers after prolonged treatment with steroid drugs may indicate the development of fungal invasion. Secondary bacterial infection can occur as a result of suppression of the protective reaction of the patient's body.
Drug Interaction
Interaction with other medicines is currently unknown.
When used with other topical ophthalmic drugs, the interval between use should be at least 10 minutes.
