DESCRIPTION

Convenia is an antibiotic indicated in the treatment of bacterial infections of the urinary tract, soft tissues, and skin in cats and dogs. In appearance, Convenia is a lyophilized powder from white to yellow, the diluent is a clear, colorless liquid.

COMPOSITION

Convenia contains cefovecin (in the form of sodium salt) as an active ingredient and is supplied with a diluent (in a separate bottle) /

Convenia in a vial with a capacity of 5 ml contains cefovecin - 340 mg, as auxiliary substances: methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, benzyl alcohol, sodium citrate dihydrate, hydrochloric acid and sodium chloride (to adjust the pH). The cefovecin diluent contains benzyl alcohol and water for injection.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Pharmacotherapeutic group: antibacterial drug of the third generation cephalosporin group.

Cefovecin - the active ingredient of Convenia has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against most gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and Pasteurella multocida, usually isolated from skin infections in dogs and cats; Prevotella oralis, Bacteroides spp. and Fusobacterium spp., isolated from abscesses in cats; Porphyromonas spp. and Prevotella spp., secreted in acute infectious and inflammatory diseases of the periodontal and gums in dogs, and Escherichia coli, secreted in urinary tract infections in dogs and cats.

The mechanism of action of cefovecin is to block transpeptidase enzymes that bind peptidoglycan of the cell wall, as a result of which the bacterial cell is destroyed.

Cefovecin is rapidly absorbed from the injection site, reaching a peak plasma concentration in dogs after 6 hours and in cats after 2 hours. The therapeutic concentrations of the antibiotic after a single administration of the drug in the body of dogs and cats are maintained for 14 days. Cefovecin more than 96% binds to blood plasma proteins, is excreted from the body mainly in the urine unchanged, the half-life of the drug in dogs is 5.5 days, in cats - 6.9 days.

According to the degree of impact on the body, Convenia is classified as a 'low-hazard substance' (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76).

PURPOSE

Convenia is prescribed to dogs and cats for the treatment of diseases of the skin, soft tissues (abscesses, pyoderma) and urinary tract, bacterial etiology caused by microorganisms sensitive to the action of cefovecin. In acute infectious and inflammatory diseases of the gums and periodontal disease associated with Porphyromonas spp. and Prevotella spp., Convenia is used in dogs in combination therapy (together with a surgical method of treatment).

DOSAGE AND APPLICATION

Convenia is used in dogs and cats in the form of a solution for injection, which is prepared before use in compliance with the rules of asepsis. Add the supplied diluent to the antibiotic powder vial and shake thoroughly until it is completely dissolved.

The prepared therapeutic solution containing 80 mg of cefovecin in 1 ml is injected once subcutaneously at a dose of 1 ml per 1 O kg of animal weight (equivalent to 8 mg of cefovecin per 1 kg of animal weight).

If necessary, the drug is re-administered in the same dose with an interval of 14 days. The total course of treatment should not exceed four injections.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

When working with Convenia, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety measures provided for when working with veterinary medicinal products. During work, it is forbidden to drink, smoke, eat; after finishing work, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

In case of accidental contact of the drug with the skin or mucous membranes, they must be rinsed with plenty of water. People with a hypersensitivity to f3-lactam antibiotics should avoid direct contact with Convenia. In case of allergic reactions or accidental ingestion of the drug into the human body, you should immediately contact a medical institution (you should have instructions for use of the drug or a label with you).

It is forbidden to use empty packaging from under the medicinal product for household purposes, it must be disposed of with household waste.

The medicinal product is not intended for use in productive animals.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Do not administer the drug to dogs and cats hypersensitive to f3-lactam antibiotics.

The medicinal product is not intended for use in dogs and cats with hypersensitivity to f3-lactam antibiotics, pregnant and lactating females, puppies and kittens under 8 weeks of age, as well as animals during mating.

SIDE EFFECTS

When using the drug in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications, as a rule, are not observed. In case of manifestation of allergic reactions, the use of the drug is discontinued and antihistamines and symptomatic therapy are prescribed.

SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE

The shelf life of the drug, subject to storage conditions, is 3 years from the date of production, the shelf life of the prepared medicinal solution at a storage temperature of 2 В° C - 8 В° C is 28 days.

Store the drug in the manufacturer's closed packaging, protected from direct sunlight, separate from food and feed, at a temperature of 2 В° C to 8 В° C.

PACKAGING

Convenia is produced sterilely packaged in glass bottles with a capacity of 5 ml, sealed with rubber stoppers, reinforced with aluminum caps. The amount of diluent for Convenia in the presentation of cefovecin 340 mg - 4 ml. Vials of appropriate volumes, one with lyophilisate and one with a diluent, are packed in a cardboard box along with instructions for use.
