Pharmacological action
Chondroitin sulfate is a high molecular weight mucopolysaccharide involved in the construction of the main substance of cartilage. Chondroitin sulfate improves phosphorus-calcium metabolism in the cartilage, accelerates its recovery processes, inhibits the degeneration (destruction) of cartilage and connective tissue, inhibits enzymes, causing damage to cartilage.
Chondroitin sulfate reduces pain and improves mobility in affected joints. Chondroitin sulfate slows the progression of osteoarthrosis. With molecular resemblance to heparin, chondroitin sulfate can potentially interfere with microcirculation disruption in the subchondral region.
Pharmacokinetics
More than 70% of chondroitin sulfate is absorbed in the digestive tract. The bioavailability of the drug is 13%.
With a single oral administration of a medium therapeutic dose, the maximum plasma concentration is observed after 2 hours, in the synovial fluid after 4-5 hours. The drug absorbed in the digestive tract accumulates in the synovial fluid. It is excreted by the kidneys.
