Caninsulin 2.5ml
DESCRIPTION
CaninsulinВ® is a hormonal medication for the treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes in dogs and cats. The drug is used in dogs and cats to lower the blood glucose concentration and normalize carbohydrate metabolism in diabetes mellitus. Dosage form: suspension for injection. In appearance, Kaninsulin is a white water suspension.
COMPOSITION
Kaninsulin in 1 ml contains 40 IU of amorphous zinc-insulin and crystalline zinc-insulin (in a ratio of 35% and 65%) as an active ingredient, prepared from highly purified insulin obtained from the pancreas of pigs, and as auxiliary substances: 1 mg methylhydroxybenzoate , 0.08 mg zinc, 1.36 mg sodium acetate trihydrate, 7.0 mg sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid (to adjust the pH to 7.35), water for injection.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Pharmacotherapeutic group of the drug: hormonal drugs for systemic use.
Insulin is a hormone that is produced (by 3-cells of the islets of Largenhans of the pancreas. Caninsulin has a specific ability to regulate carbohydrate metabolism in dogs and cats; enhances the penetration of glucose into cells and promotes its conversion into glycogen. Caninsulin is a specific antidiabetic agent of prolonged action for dogs and cats When introduced into an animal's body, the drug lowers blood glucose, reduces its excretion in the urine, eliminates diabetic coma.In addition to the hypoglycemic effect, Kaninsulin causes an increase in glycogen stores in the liver and muscles, increased fat formation, stimulation of peptide synthesis, and a decrease in protein consumption.
The effect of the drug, aimed at lowering blood glucose in dogs, after subcutaneous administration reaches a maximum after 6-8 hours and lasts 14-24 hours. In cats, it reaches a maximum after 1.5 hours and lasts 5-12 hours. The drug is excreted in the urine through the kidneys.
According to the degree of impact on the body, Kaninsulin belongs to the group of low-hazard substances (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76). In recommended doses, it does not have cumulative, embryotoxic, teratogenic and allergenic properties.
DOSAGE AND APPLICATION
Caninsulin is used in dogs and cats to lower blood glucose levels and normalize carbohydrate metabolism in insulin-dependent diabetes.
Caninsulin is administered to animals subcutaneously. Before use, the contents of the bottle are thoroughly shaken until a homogeneous suspension is formed. For the convenience of dosing and using the drug, it is recommended to use specially graduated insulin syringes.
Doses and the number of injections per day are selected individually for each animal, taking into account the nature of feeding, blood glucose, the amount of glucose excreted in the urine at different times of the day.
For dogs, the initial daily dose of Kaninsulin is 1 U per kg of animal weight, plus an adjustment for animal weight:
Dog weight, kg
Correction of Caninsulin Dose for Dog Weight
Example
Dog weight, kg
Total Dose Adjusted for Dog Weight
<10 1 UNIT 6 6 + 1 = 7 UNITS
10-12 2 units ten 10 + 2 = 12 UNITS
12-20 3 units sixteen 16 + 3 = 19 UNITS
> 20 4 units thirty 30 + 4 = 34 UNITS
Depending on the concentration of glucose in the blood, with prolonged use of Kaninsulin, the dose can be increased or decreased, but not more than by 10%, followed by an assessment of the effectiveness of the dose within 3-4 days. The recommended frequency of administration for dogs is 1 time per day after the first feeding. The introduction of Kaninsulin is allowed during pregnancy and lactation, with careful veterinary control of the animal's condition during this period. For cats, the initial dose of Kaninsulin is selected depending on the concentration of glucose in the blood:
Blood glucose concentration Caninsulin dose
<20 mmol / l 0.25 U / kg
> 20 mmol / l 0.5 U / kg
For cats, Kaninsulin is used twice a day with an interval of 12 hours. With prolonged use of the drug, the dose can be changed within В± 0.5 U per animal. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 1 U per kg of cat weight.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
When treating with Kaninsulin, it is not recommended to change the daily amount and type of feed.
In case of an overdose of the drug, symptoms such as hunger, increased anxiety, unsteady gait, stumbling, weakness in the hind limbs, muscle twitching and disorientation may appear, it is necessary to determine the concentration of glucose in the blood. In case of hypoglycemia, it is necessary to inject a glucose solution or provide food for the animal to restore blood glucose levels.
The peculiarities of the action at the first administration or withdrawal of the drug have not been identified.
Violations of the timing of the use of the drug should be avoided as this can lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of treatment. If the next injection is missed, it is necessary to apply Kaninsulin as soon as possible.
