Dermatophytes, yeast-like fungi (genus Candida, Torulopsis glabrata, Rhodotorula), mold fungi, as well as the causative agent of varicoloured lichen Pityriasis versicolor and the causative agent of erythrasma are sensitive to clotrimazole.
It has an antimicrobial effect against gram-positive (staphylococci and streptococci) and gram-negative bacteria (Bacteroides, Gardnerella vaginalis), as well as against Trichomonas vaginalis.
When clotrimazole is applied topically, absorption of clotrimazole from the mucous membranes is negligible.
