Boric acid is an antiseptic, it also has an insecticidal (including anti-pediculosis) effect. Coagulates proteins (including enzymatic) of the microbial cell, violates the permeability of the cell membrane. 5% aqueous solution inhibits phagocytosis processes, 2 4% solution inhibits the growth and development of bacteria. Has an irritating effect on mucous membranes, granulation tissue. When absorbed, it has systemic toxic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Penetrates well through the skin and mucous membranes; is slowly excreted and can accumulate in organs and tissues. Excreted by the kidneys In 50% (within 12 hours), the remainder within 5-7 days.
Side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, epithelial desquamation, headache, confusion, convulsions, impaired renal function.
