DESCRIPTION
Baytril 5% injection solution for the treatment of diseases of calves, pigs and dogs of bacterial and mycoplasma etiology. The drug is a sterile clear solution of light yellow color.
COMPOSITION
1 ml of an injection solution contains 50 mg of enrofloxacin as an active ingredient and auxiliary components: potassium hydroxide, n-butanol, water for injection.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Enrofloxacin, which is a part of the drug, belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones, has a wide spectrum of antibacterial and antimycoplasmic action, inhibits the growth and development of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Streteptococcus , Campylobacter, Corynebacterium, Pseudomonas, Proteus, and Mycoplasma spp. The mechanism of action of enrofloxacin is to inhibit the activity of the enzyme gyrase, which affects the replication of the DNA helix in the nucleus of a bacterial cell. When administered parenterally, enrofloxacin is well and quickly absorbed from the injection site and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. The maximum concentration of enrofloxacin in the blood is reached after 20-40 minutes,
Baytril 5% solution for injection according to the degree of effect on the body refers to moderately hazardous substances, in recommended doses it is well tolerated by animals, does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic and hepatotoxic effects. Enrofloxacin is excreted from the body mainly unchanged, partially metabolized to ciprofloxacin and excreted in urine and feces.
INDICATIONS
Prescribed to calves, pigs and dogs with a therapeutic purpose for infections of the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system, septicemia, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, streptococcosis, bacterial and enzootic pneumonia, atrophic rhinitis, mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome caused by microorganisms sensitive to fluoroquinolones, as well as in mixed infections and secondary infections in viral diseases.
DOSES AND METHOD OF APPLICATION
Baytril 5% injection solution is administered subcutaneously to calves and dogs, intramuscularly to pigs in the following doses: calves and pigs - 1 ml per 20 kg of animal weight (2.5 mg of enrofloxacin per 1 kg of weight) once a day for 3 to 5 days, sows with mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome - within 1 - 2 days; for dogs - 1 ml per 10 kg of animal weight (5 mg of enrofloxacin per 1 kg of body weight) once a day for 5 days, for chronic and severe diseases - up to 10 days.
Due to the possible painful reaction, the drug should not be administered in one place to large animals in a volume exceeding 5 ml, and to small animals in a volume exceeding 2.5 ml. If no noticeable clinical improvement occurs within 3 - 5 days, it is recommended to retest for the sensitivity of microorganisms isolated from a sick animal to fluoroquinolones or replace Baytril with another antibacterial drug.
SIDE EFFECTS
In some cases, a short-term dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract is possible. Redness may occur at the injection point, which disappears spontaneously.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to enrofloxacin and other quinolones. It is forbidden to prescribe to puppies in the first year of life, until the end of their growth period, to females during pregnancy and lactation, with significant disorders in the development of cartilage tissue, lesions of the nervous system, accompanied by convulsions, as well as when microorganisms resistant to fluoroquinolones are released from a sick animal. The simultaneous use of Baytril with chloramphenicol, macrolides, tetracyclines, theophylline and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is not allowed.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed no earlier than 14 days after the last use of the drug. The meat of animals that were forcedly killed before the expiration of the established period can be used for feeding fur animals or for the production of meat and bone meal.
SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE
Store the drug in a closed manufacturer's packaging in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, separately from food and feed, at a temperature of 5 В° C to 25 В° C. Shelf life - 3 years. After opening the bottle, the drug can be used within 28 days.
