Pharmacological action

X-ray contrast agent. Due to the expressed adhesive properties, it envelops the gastrointestinal mucosa and provides a clear image of the moth mucosa microrelief.

Pharmacokinetics

Not absorbed from the digestive tract. Completely excreted after 24-48 hours.

Indications

X-ray examination of the esophagus, stomach and intestines (including the method of double contrast).

Contraindications

Gastrointestinal wall perforation (suspected of it), esophagotracheal fistula, swallowing disorder, intestinal obstruction, constipation, esophageal stenosis, gastrointestinal tract bleeding, pregnancy, condition after surgical interventions on the gastrointestinal tract malabsorption syndrome, food allergy, allergy sensitivity .

Special instructions

Use with caution in severe general patient condition.

For double contrasting in adults and older children (in young children it is not advisable to perform double contrasting) immediately before the study, the patient is given, depending on age, 1.5-3.5 g of baking soda (in solution or powder), which is quickly washed down with a solution of 1-3 g of citric acid.

The total volume of distilled water should not exceed 7-15 ml. Barium sulfate can be used to study intestinal motility in children.

Dosage and administration

Inside, in the form of a pre-prepared suspension (immediately before the X-ray examination).

Suspension is prepared by gradually diluting the entire amount of powder (240 g) in 60 ml of boiled water with continuous stirring for 3 minutes (the volume of the resulting suspension is 120 ml).

The amount of suspension taken depends on the research method and ranges from 15-20 to 80-100 ml.

Side effects

In conventional studies at the indicated dosage, no side effects occur.

When using gas-forming substances in the process of double contrasting, unpleasant sensations in the stomach can occur.

Possible individual intolerance, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting.

Isolated cases of the so-called barium appendicitis, intestinal spasms are described.
