pharmachologic effect
Combined antibacterial drug for external use.
Contains two antibiotics that have a bactericidal effect, neomycin and bacitracin.
Bacitracin is a polypeptide antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall.
Bacitracin is active against gram-positive microorganisms such as beta-hemolytic streptococci, staphylococci, and some gram-negative pathogens.
Bacitracin resistance is extremely rare.
Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis.
Active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Through the use of a combination of these two antibiotics, a wide spectrum of action of the drug and synergism of action against a number of microorganisms, for example, staphylococci, are achieved.
Pharmacokinetics
The active ingredients, as a rule, are not absorbed (even by damaged skin), however, they are present in high concentrations in the skin.
Baneocin is well tolerated.
Tissue tolerance is considered excellent
inactivation by biological products, blood and tissue components is not observed.
If the drug is applied to large areas of skin lesions, the possibility of absorption of the drug and its consequences should be taken into account (see the sections Side effects", "Drug interactions", "Contraindications" and "Special instructions").
Indications for use
Treatment of infectious and inflammatory skin diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug:
- focal skin infections, incl.
boils, carbuncles (after surgery), staphylococcal sycosis, periporitis, deep folliculitis, purulent hydradenitis, paronychia
- bacterial skin infections of limited prevalence, incl.
contagious impetigo, infected ulcers of the lower extremities, secondarily infected eczema, secondary infection with dermatoses, cuts, abrasions, burns, cosmetic surgery and skin transplantation (also for prophylaxis and for dressing dressings).
Prevention and treatment of infection after surgery.
Baneocin ointment can be used as an additional treatment in the postoperative period.
Application of ointment to bandages is preferred for local treatment of patients with infected cavities and wounds (for example, bacterial infections of the external ear canal without perforation of the tympanic membrane, wounds or surgical incisions that heal by secondary intention).
Contraindications for use
- extensive skin lesions (the risk of developing an ototoxic effect, accompanied by hearing loss)
- severe disorders of excretory function due to heart or renal failure in patients with already existing lesions of the vestibular and cochlear systems in cases where absorption of the active components of the drug is possible
- infections of the external auditory canal with perforation of the tympanic membrane
- simultaneous use with antibiotics of the aminoglycoside group of systemic action (risk of cumulative toxicity)
- hypersensitivity to bacitracin, neomycin or to other aminoglycosides, auxiliary components of the drug.
Do not use this medicine to treat eye infections.
The drug should be prescribed with caution in patients with impaired liver and / or kidney function, acidosis, severe myasthenia gravis or other neuromuscular diseases.

Focal skin infections, for example: Furuncles, carbuncles (after surgery), scalp folliculitis, purulent hydrodenitis, pseudofurunculosis, paronychia
Bacterial skin infections of limited prevalence, for example: contagious impetigo, infected varicose ulcers, with secondary bacterial eczema, secondary infection with dermatoses, cuts, abrasions, burns, in cosmetic surgery and in skin transplantation (also for prophylactic use and under bandages).
After major and minor surgical procedures
Baneocin ointment can be used as an additional treatment in the postoperative period:
The application of Baneocin ointment to gauze strips is preferable for directed local treatment of patients with infected cavities and wounds (for example, infections of the external auditory canal, wounds or surgical incisions healing by secondary intention).
Contraindications
A history of hypersensitivity to bacitracin and / or neomycin, or to other aminoglycoside antibiotics.
Baneocin should not be used with significant skin lesions, since absorption of the drug can cause an ototoxic effect with hearing loss.
