pharmachologic effect

Azithromycin is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic from the group of macrolides-azalides. Possesses a wide spectrum of antimicrobial action. The mechanism of action of azithromycin is associated with the suppression of protein synthesis of the microbial cell. By binding to the 50S-subunit of ribosomes of bacterial cells, it inhibits peptide translocase at the translation stage and suppresses protein synthesis, slowing down the growth and reproduction of bacteria. In high concentrations, it has a bactericidal effect. Has activity against a number of gram-positive, gram-negative anaerobic, intracellular and other microorganisms. Microorganisms may initially be resistant to antibiotic action or may acquire resistance to it. Sensitive: aerobic gram-positive microorganisms - Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin-sensitive), Steptococcus pneumophila,Moraxella catarrhalis, Pasteurella multocida, Neisseria gonorrhoeae; anaerobic microorganisms - Clostridium perfringens, Fusobacterium spp., Porphyromonas spp .; others - Chlamidia psittaci, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Mycoplasma hominis, Borrelia burgodorferi. Microorganisms capable of developing resistance to azithromycin: gram-positive aerobes - Steptococcus pneumoniae (penicillin-resistant strains). Microorganisms with natural resistance: gram-positive aerobes - Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus spp. (methicillin-resistant strains); anaerobes - Bacteroides fragilis. Cases of cross-resistance of Steptococcus pneumoniae, Steptococcus pyogenes (beta-hemolytic group A streptococcus), Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus, including Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin-resistant strains) to erythromycin, azithromycin, other macrolides and lincosamides.
