PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Antimedin belongs to the group of? 2-blockers. Atipamezole, which is a part of the drug, is a selective antagonist of ОІ2-adrenergic receptors; the mechanism of its action is due to a violation of the interaction of the mediator with adrenoreactive systems without disturbing the formation of the mediator and its release from the nerve endings. After the introduction of Antimedin in animals, there is a rapid elimination of the sedative and analgesic effect caused by ОІ 2-agonists: dexamedetomidine or medetomidine. Antimedin is rapidly absorbed after intramuscular injection. The maximum concentration of the drug in the blood is reached in 10-15 minutes. The half-life of atipamezole is 1 to 3 hours. Atipamezole is oxidized mainly in the liver, a small part is methylated in the kidneys. The metabolites of the drug are excreted mainly in the urine.
According to the degree of impact on the body, Antimedin belongs to low-hazard substances (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007), in recommended doses it is well tolerated by animals, does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic and hepatotoxic properties.
APPLICATION
Antimedin is used to eliminate the sedative and analgesic effects of ОІ2-agonists in dogs and cats, as well as, if necessary, to eliminate the side effects of ОІ2-agonists on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Antimedin is used 15-60 minutes after? 2-agonists. Usually, the sedative effect of medetomidine or dexamedetomidine is relieved within 5-10 minutes.
Antimedin is administered to animals intramuscularly once. In case of continued depression in the animal, it is possible to re-administer Antimedin in 10-15 minutes. Dosages: - For dogs, the dose of Antimedine in ml is equal to the dose of medetomidine administered. - for cats, the dose of Antimedine in ml is equal to half of the administered dose of medetomidine.
Peculiarities of action during the first use of the drug: after administration of the drug, animals may experience a state of delirium, a sense of danger and aggression.
OVERDOSE
In case of overdose, animals may experience short-term hyperactivity and tachycardia. When cats are hyperactive, it is necessary to minimize exposure to external stimuli. The administration of half-dose medetomidine eliminates the symptoms of atipamezole overdose.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Contraindication to use is heart failure, liver or kidney dysfunctions. It is prohibited to administer Antimedin to pregnant females.
Antimedin is not used to eliminate the action of other sedatives.
Antimedin is not intended for use in productive animals.
It is not recommended to mix Antimedin in one syringe with other medicinal products. The use of О±2-adrenergic receptor antagonists together with anticholinergic drugs or drugs with a positive chronotropic effect can cause excessive tachycardia.
