PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Ainil is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. Ketoprofen, which is part of Ainil, is a derivative of propionic acid from the carboxylic acid group. The mechanism of action of ketoprofen is to inhibit the enzyme cyclooxygenase and suppress the synthesis of prostaglandins and thromboxane. Ketoprofen in therapeutic doses inhibits mainly cyclooxygenase-II, providing anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects, and does not affect cyclooxygenase-I, minimizing the development of side effects such as bleeding, ulceration and impaired renal function. The analgesic effect of ketoprofen is associated with the inhibition of bradykinin directly, which excites painful nerve endings and thereby provokes pain. In addition to its anti-bradykinin activity, ketoprofen has an effect on the central nervous system, suppressing pain perception. In horses, ketoprofen counteracts the effects of endotoxin and prevents the intestinal spasm caused by bradykinin. After intramuscular administration of Ainil to cattle, ketoprofen is well absorbed, reaching a maximum concentration in the blood plasma 1 hour after injection. More than 98% of ketoprofen binds to blood plasma proteins and is concentrated in inflamed tissues. The drug is excreted from the body mainly in the urine. In the recommended doses, Ainil has no local irritating, sensitizing, mutagenic, carcinogenic, embryotoxic and teratogenic effects.
