Pharmacological action of
Nopoxypol is a nonionic surface-active compound, its spermicidal effect is due to fragmentation and reduced sperm motility. It has bactericidal activity against gonococci and chlamydia. In vitro is active against HIV infections, but there is no clinical evidence of a reduced risk of HIV infection with ponoxynol. Lactic acid has a beneficial effect on the normal microflora and vaginal mucosa.
When using a suppository, the concentration of ponoxynol in the vagina is on average 1-1.7%, which is sufficient for the manifestation of spermicidal activity.
The spermicidal effect of the suppository occurs after its dissolution, approximately 10 minutes after the introduction into the vagina, and lasts no more than 2 hours.
Foam does not form when using the drug.

With frequent use of suppositories, the likelihood of side effects increases.

Composition
Active ingredient: Nonoxynol-9 - 120 mg
Excipients: D-, L-Lactic acid, macrogol 4000 (polyethylene oxide), macrogol 1000 (polyethylene oxide).
Dosage and administration
The suppository is inserted into the vagina as deep as possible, not less than 10 minutes and not earlier than 1 hour before the onset of sexual intercourse. With repeated sexual intercourse, a new suppository is used according to the same scheme. After intercourse for 6 hours, it is not recommended to produce a vaginal toilet in order to avoid the loss of a contraceptive effect.
Side effects
Rarely - dermatitis, itching, burning of the vagina of a woman or partner's penis.
Annoyance usually goes away without special measures.
Drug interaction
Due to a possible decrease in spermicidal activity, the drug Nonoxynol is not recommended for use with other drugs intended for intravaginal administration.
Storage conditions
